Can c serum be too acidic? Whenever I make it the ph tester always shows it at the most acidic , which is 2.0 or below. My skin seems to be fine with it this way but I'm wondering if I should add something to make it less acid. I'm using a basic c e ferulic recipe with added DMAE
serum. |

A L-absorbic acid C serum is suppose to have a pH of 3.5 or less for best penetration.
I don't think yours is 'too' acidic, unless it is showing signs of irritation. |

As foxe says, ascorbic serum needs to be acidic to even have a chance at penetrating skin. In fact, at pH 2.0 skin may absorb approx 3 times more AA than it would at pH 3.5.
Personally I never go higher than pH 2.5 with a 20% AA serum and there is even a visible difference between that and the 3.5 version. Always stick with the lowest pH your skin can tolerate. |
