Hi I have ordered some retin A but am a bit concerned about when/where to use it I have some broken capillaries on my cheeks and intend to have IPL treatment early next year when I can afford it. Should I avoid using the retin A over my cheeks and if I use it on just certain areas such as forehead will my skin look patchy? |

Yes you can use it, just discontinue it's use at least one month before IPL. The use of retinoids isnt a huge problem like it is with other laser based treatments exp: Fraxel. |

You do not have to stop using Retin A before IPL
Here is why:
By Don Mehrabi, MD
Retin A is an excellent anti aging treatment and is a key part of most anti-aging regimens. In regards to its usage before IPL, you should really have to problems, and in fact, I believe that its continual usage before and after the procedure will actually lead to better IPL results, especially with for the treatment of hyperpigmentation.
When doing lasers, it is not uncommon for physicians to put patients on Retin A or Hydroquinone, or a combination of both, 2 weeks prior to and for 2 weeks after the procedure. You can feel comfortable using the Retin-A knowing that your results will not be affected at all, and may actually be improved just continuing what you've been doing all along.
The only other preparation I would do prior to your IPL is to practice fairly strict sunavoidace 2 weeks prior and 1 week after your procedure, and to wear a fairly strong SPF 15 or 30 sunscreen throughout this entire time.

I'm still not sure about the broken capillaries though I know retin A thickens the lower skin levels but will it make the capillaries more obvious as it thins the upper layer and I have seen comments that it can actually cause them.
I have ordered 0.25 and 0.5 Retin A it will be my first time using it and I am a bit worried about this |

I think it really depends on your own skin. Some people have found RA makes the capillaries worse, others think it has improved them. Go slow and see how your own skin responds. |

I really want to improve my skins condition it has quite a lot of damage i.e capillaries, lines on forehead and brown patches I was prescribed dianette tablets for PCOS and although it improved spots I constantly had not sure if negative affects are worth it maybe I can stop taking it if retin a will give the same results i.e no spots if I use the retin a at night what can anyone suggest I can use in the morning I noticed people talking about vitamin c is that a serum? how does that work and can it be used as well as the retin A? Is it available without prescription? |

I have been informed through my botox provider that if they were to give me any other laser treatment they would have to put me on a different retinol product six months prior to the procedure, am I being cheated? |

I have found Retin A helps very minimally for brown patches and if it does improve them at all, it will take a long time. Have you checked into Obagi's Nu Derm? |

No I will have a look at it I haven't really looked at anything else there is so much out there I'm under the impression that Retin A is some kind of miracle just from looking at other posts so I kinda just went straight ahead and ordered some I feel the brown spots may be due to taking the dianette and years of not using sunscreen I was in the sun one day and when I looked it the mirror new freckles/brown patches literally just appeared all over my forehead,my face just looks blotchy and uneven I am only 29 but feel my skin is decades older. |

Retin-a is very good. Its definitly a good place to start and helps with many different skin conditions like pigmentation issues, wrinkles, and pimples to name a few. Start off with it and see if you still need IPL. |

That's the plan though I feel the capillaries on my are cheeks are pretty bad so hoping that they won't get worse but at least I will be able to have the IPL if they do.
If I were to use a vit c serum in the mornings may that also help and is that to be used on its own or with a moisturiser also are there any precautions I need to take with any of the things I've mentioned I know about the sunscreen thing how long do you have to wait to put it on after the vit c |

Flick, do you know about earthclinic.com? There are some effective rosacea home cures there. Go to this page and search for rosacea to find some good information:
http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/borax.html
Had I known about this earlier I could have saved myself oodles of money on dermatologists and expensive treatments.

I have just had a look there is something called arnica spray which people seem to be saying has worked for their spider veins which makes me a bit more hopeful anyone have any experience with this?
I was all set to buy the obagi vit c serum 10% but am a little concerned about the harsh affects this can have on the skin I think my skin is quite sensitive.
Can anyone tell me what to expect from the 10% strength will I experience peeling with it I am itching to buy something to start the process towards nicer skin still waiting for my retin a |

Just be very conservative using Retin-A for the first time - a little bit is very effective - too much and you may experience over-exfoliation, excess dryness and peeling -- other than that it is great stuff... but alas for I remember the days of old when liquid Retin-A was available! Now that stuff was da bomb! loved it!
I have found Osmosis serums to be effective for the slight capillary issues I had |

I've tried arnica, although not this latest, particular spray. The earthclinic remedy is the one that did it for me. And it worked unequivocally. |

I think trying a Vit C is not going to hurt. I use Vit c in the morning, a stem cell serum and then my sunscreen. I have just ordered Retin A myself and am going to use it at night before my CP's.
I had some broken caps on my cheeks for years, I had 3 treatments of IPL about 14 months ago and I was extremely happy with the results. It cleared my broken caps and I was just sorry I hadn't done it ages ago! It did hurt though..lol Also a reputable operator is extremely important.
I tried Obagi a few years ago but my skin just couldn't cope with it!! |

How long after the tx did you see results? I've been getting IPL for my eyes and last time asked him to zap a cap under my eye. He hit it twice, and this was my 4th tx altogether. But that cap is still there, it's been a week or so. |
