I am due for a facial on Tuesday, the day before I take off from vacation. I don't have any real active acne, just lots of clogs on my chin. Would I be ok? I don't have senstive skin really...
what do you all think? |

Nobody can answer that for you, unfortunately. Everyones skin reacts differently. Facials are diabolical for me. I break out heavily for several weeks after them and at the end of it my skin is no better than it was before. I no longer bother with them. |

I don't bother with facials anymore. I used to be a facial addict (La Mer, Ling, Dermalogica) but my skin was no better from them- just hydrated. I spend my money on skin products or acupuncture/massage these days, rather than facials- to me they are a waste of money... |

I dont bother with facials anymore either as they dont do anything and they were just stealing my money that I could have been spending on quality skincare.
That said I do see a skin specialist once every few months and if I need anything done she will do what is needed but she agrees that facials are a waste of money. However, if I need extractions she does them expertly and I never get a breakout from her doing that. But if she gets one of her other staff members to do any extractions on me I can be guaranteed that I will have a breakout where each and every extraction was done - so I think it comes down to technique and expertise...
Basically if it's somewhere you've never been before and you dont know what the outcome will be, skip the extractions if it is too late to cancel the booking - and for your clogged pores look at purchasing some effective products to help deal with that or maybe even start on Retin-A. HTH |

I never do facials either. I feel I can do a better job and I know my skin well enough to know what it likes.
Personally I would not have a facial the day before an event because you don't know how your skin will react and you could have lingering irritation from the extractions. |

LondonJamie, do you do extractions yourself? Or how do you keep your skin clean?
My main concern is the blackheads on my nose, I do not know any other way to get rid of them but by having a facial. |

I find it interesting you don't see acupuncture as a waste of money... |

This is a little bit off-topic. What is wrong with acupuncture? |

Nothing, I love it! Is a massage a waste of money? My face looks better after a acupuncture treatment than a facial...but that's just me.
@ RussianSunshine- My skin doesn't really need any extractions. I try not to smother it the way I used to. I keep it squeaky clean with cleansers, a *hot* wash cloth and exfoliators (Origins Modern Friction and Murad's Pomegranate Cleanser are good). |

I don't understand your comment here. LondonJamie said she received no benefit from facials and she does from acupuncture. Why would that be interesting that she doesn't consider that a waste of money? I'm always looking to learn more so if you know something we don't, please share. |

LondonJamie, the question was addressed to Tri-foliant I love acupuncture, it is really great for relaxation. By the way, are you referring to face or body acupuncture?

The NCAHF asserts that acupuncture is scientifically unproven as a modality of treatment. The NCAHF says (as of 1990) that research during the past twenty years has failed to demonstrate that acupuncture is effective against any disease. |

Well here I am, post facial. She did microderm, a high freq. light treatment and a ton of extractions! The only down side is now I have red marks from the extractions, ugh. Estimated time for them to go away? Been popping advil and using a bland moisturizer too... |

This can happen and is why I'd never recommend having a facial days before going somewhere. |

I can't really do extraxtions easily.
My skin gets extremely inflamed-I have a problem with bruising from anything...
I just use a clay mask on my nose a few times a week and that absorbs all the oil and makes the pores look smaller.
you could even use powdered clay and just water if your nose is really yucky looking. |

I love facials. Its definitely helped me manage my skin. I do sometimes break out in the areas where the extractions are done. Usually redness for me goes away in a day, but I assume this would vary from person to person. |

Hey RussianSunshine, sorry I know I didn't make it clear I was replying to Trifoliant first and then to you underneath- opps.
I haven't had facial acupuncture just yet but I do plan on trying it as I've read positive reviews from it. I don't buy into the whole anti-aging benefits but the short term superficial benefits are not to be sniffed at. Currently I have acupuncture in my back and in the top and back of my head. It usually sends me into a deep sleep and I wake up looking and feeling like I've slept for a week!! I look much more rested and fresh when I keep my acupuncture sessions up. Have you tried facial acupuncture? |

Acupuncture is relaxing?
not for me anyways.
just looking or thinking of the needles stresses me out.
I could have had free acupuncture when I had phisio and turned that down.
Even though I know the needles are not painful, it is too stressful for me.
I must be the only person who does not like this treatment...
I like a massage better! |
