I had a fat transfer procedure done November 7th on my face. During my last consultation, I was told I should start using a Retin A product, and also a cleanser with glycolic acid in it. I have been using the Youth Code line from L'Oreal. I am going to order pure Retin A, but would like suggestions & recommendations on a line of products that actually work.

It would help to know what you want to accomplish for your skin in recommending products.

I just want to clean, moisturize, & try to put off wrinkles for a little longer. I have always cleaned & moisturized my face, but never really put much thought into the products. BTW - I just turned 50 in August.

What type of skin do you have? Dry, oily, combo, normal, acne? Are wrinkles present or not? Is there anything you have in your arsenal you're using now or have tried (Besides the Youth Code line)? Just trying to feel out where you're at, whether you're new to this and just starting out or have a bit of experience/knowledge in skincare. I don't want to suggest things you already know about Wink

I have normal skin, very few breakouts now. I have used Mary Kay line, Avon line. I have a few fine wrinkles around my eye area & a big one between my brows! I guess I would say I don't know all that much about what I should be doing.

Ok...let's start from the top Very Happy

Sunscreen: I'm sure you are fully aware of this fact Laughing But don't go a single day without it! I do nothing less than SPF30. I try to stay away from the chemical sunscreens and opt for the physical ones. Right now I am loving Elta MD Physical 41. It's slightly tinted and doesn't leave the white cast like many SPF's do. Having semi-normal skin gives you many choices when choosing sunscreen.

Vitamin C serums: This is a main staple for most everyone. I like Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, but there are a ton of C serums out there and many even make their own. If you can tolerate C's, everyone should use it.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Aid in exfoliation and again if it's tolerable I think people should use them. Some do not believe in them but many skin care professionals recommend their use. I currently use Alpha Hydrox 10% Lotion most every day. They also make a Souffle that people love, that one is good too and I've used it before.

I always keep my cleanser basic and use nothing fancy. I have skin that tends to be more towards the dry side so use like Physoderm and Cetaphyl. I've been using NCN Pro Skincares Rhassoul Clay cleansing bar for a while now and I love that. In my opinion it isn't necessary to spend a ton on cleansers with fancy ingredients as it barely spends any time on your face in the grand scheme of things.

Copper Peptides: You can learn a lot from skinbiology.com about these. Read up on it plenty before you ever decide to use them in regards to their proper use. Some have had bad results (called the uglies) using CP's but many, many boast their regenerative qualities and have had fabulous results. I've dabbled in CP's briefly and am considering going back to them in some form.

Retin-a: Yes, in my opinion a must for everyone over 30 if you can tolerate. Work up slowly though and ease in to their use. It takes a while for the skin to adjust to nightly use. Some cannot tolerate every night but even if you use it a few times a week, it helps.

Those are some of the basics and there's a lot more things out there for sure. Hopefully someone will chime in and add a bit more here but my time is running short at the moment, kids are getting out of school Laughing ...But when I think of something I will add more when it comes.

Oh, before I go while I'm thinking about it:

For that darn wrinkle between the brows the saving grace is botox. I use it as a preventative because if I didn't, I'd have a rather nasty crevasse there...Lol

LED's: Many on the board use these. Lightstim, Baby Quasar etc...there are many a believer in them and their skin rejuvenating qualities. Many threads regarding them here on EDS, feel free to browse Wink

Facial exercises: Again, read, read, read! There are many threads on here regarding the topic.

Bren21 has recommended a fairly aggressive routine, with quite a few products that can exfoliate, irritate or dehydrate. My suggestion is far more conservative - stick with your current cleanser and toner for now, adding a physical sunscreen and easing into Retin-A. Many skins take time to acclimatise to R-A, people often need to apply every other day or start with a very low percentage. Once you are happy your skin is settled take the next step to a glycolic cleanser as your dermatologist suggests. If you get any flaky patches from either product you can (gently) rub them away with a microfibre or muslin cloth - these are cheap, easy to keep clean and don't add any new chemicals that might upset your skin. The reviews section is great for recommendations, and there are specific threads on many of the more popular treatments such as the ones Bren21 suggested. Smile

I shall clarify:

I wasn't suggesting she use all of these at once. I was merely offering her a list of things that people have used with good results. What she uses for what she wants to accomplish is up to her. These are just some of the tried and true things I have read about on EDS....good god, I am not a fool and would never recommend using all of these in conjunction with each other. I will make an effort to clarify myself a bit better in the future...
