I take this as a supplement, but haven't used it as a topical- although I've read its a great ingredient to apply.
Perricone has 'Super Night Recharge with Red Algae'
What it is:
A night treatment that brightens, smoothes, and renews.
What it is formulated to do:
This product increases moisture and smoothes skin's surface so that it awakens with a glow like the moon. From the deep sea to your skin, the ingredient astaxanthin (abundant in red algae), is a powerful antioxidant that gives salmon and shrimp their pretty pink palette.
The only thing with this product is that astaxanthin is quite low down on the list and it also contains DMAE which I've read is a controversial ingredient. But it does contain Alpha Lipoic Acid too, which is great. This is the only product I know of for astaxanthin. There must be more though...
Water, Isododecane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Phosphatidylcholine, Thioctic Acid (Alpha-Lipoic Acid), Docosahexaenoic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethyl MEA (DMAE), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Retinol, Polysorbate 20, Pyridoxine HCl, Pantethine, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Disodium EDTA, Magnesium Aspartate, Zinc Gluconate, Tocotrienols, Sorbic Acid, Tocopherol, Astaxanthin, Copper Gluconate, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil. |

I think Skin Actives antioxidant serum has that ingredient plus a lot of other goodies in it and it is a really nice serum but it does have a colour that can be a bit alarming if you put it on during the day (we used to have an advert saying "You've been tango'd" well that was what people kept jokingly saying to me when I wore it during the day once as I looked orange. |

Japan's brand KOSE also has been offering one product named "Astalution" featuring Astaxanthin since couple of years ago. |

I've taken astaxanthin capsules for about four years..they are a must have for me. It helps with joint health, sleep, eyesight (mine improved, as measured by my opthamologist) and also great for skin. I don't wear sunscreen anymore, personally. And I never even get pink! Like Dr. Mercola says, it helps even out hyperpigmentation. Which kind to buy? If it says Hawaiian on the label its private labeled by Cynotech. So feel free to buy according to price. Amazon has some good deals on BioAstin on subscribe and save (cancel anytime). I take 8 mg. |

I find this really interesting. I think I'm going to give it a try. I have quite a bit of joint pain even though I exercise regularly, major sleep issues, skin problems and fatigue (go figure since I never sleep!). I like how this can potentially address them all. |

I took 4mg. capsule a day, after two weeks I noticed minor red spots and tiny spots of thickened skin going away. Maybe actinic keratoses, not sure. Glad they're gone.
Another benefit is not getting red after sun. However, I read that skin damage may still be occurring so best to protect yourself anyway. Look for natural A. from Hawaii on label. |

I take 5 mg a day but haven't noticed much change but it has only been about a month.
What is the best amount to take daily? |

Epicuren's new ORAC Age-Protect Serum (it's the first ingredient) and 3Lab's Perfect Glow Complex (also contains niacinamide and is a great product for brightening your skin). I use and love the 3Lab and I have samples of the Epicuren. It is an emollient and moisturizing serum. |

There seems to be a lot of varying opinions on the dose. I've seen 4mg and I've seen 8mg. I'm taking 4mg - started it about 2 weeks ago. |

Here's Mike Adam's (natural news) list of benefits from taking astaxanthin
Virtually eliminates arthritis pain for many people
Eases or eliminates chronic back pain
Accelerates muscle healing for strength trainers, weekend warriors, and people who get sore easily (I use it following my strenuous gymnastics workouts, and my soreness recovery time has been cut in half)
Functions as an internal sunscreen to enhance your tolerance of sun exposure
Offers powerful protection for the eyes and prevents macular degeneration
Prevents heart disease due to oxidative damage
Boosts immune system function
Reduces pain from carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive motion injuries
Protects the nervous system from degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease
Multiplies the effects of vitamin E and vitamin C in your body
Enhances athletic performance: both strength and endurance
Lowers LDL cholesterol
I take 8 mg a day. |
