Hi all,

New poster here. Glad I found this forum as I am just now starting at home chemical peels using MUAC. I'm using a 40% Lactic Acid peel currently and have ordered a 15% TCA to try later. I'm also using Differin gel daily to try and prep my skin for the TCA peel.

My issue is no matter what I put on my lips to keep them hydrated and to prevent the topicals from migrating to them my lips are constantly chapped. Now that winter is approaching I'm at a loss of what to try though I did just purchase a new humidifier for the bedroom.

I have been using Aquaphor Lip repair and reapply through the day and apply at night. I recently bought old school Vaseline to try especially when applying the topicals, but my lips are still dry and chapped. I rarely wear lipstick as I find it drying and am at a loss of what other products I might need to try. Any ideas? It's super annoying and at times painful.

Hello and welcome:
I've had the same problem for years, but I recently found something that works - Clarins Lip and Contour Balm.
It comes in a small unhygienic pot and is not cheap at £32.
But it's the only one out of the many I've tried that contains Maxtryl, so I think that must be the magic ingredient that's stopped the peeling and dryness at last.

I had the very same issue for a couple months already, but it's getting better these days.

Here is my solution:

1) drink enough water - this is the main cause for my chapped lips, sometimes I only drink 300~500cc a day, which is far less than recommended 2L.

2) in the mean time, stop using lip scrub - it's a nice thing to have, but not essential for me.

3) lip treatment (especially important for winter) - I've been putting on lip butter as nighttime treatment and regular lip balm during the day.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried quitting all the exfoliants and allowing your lips to heal? Once the skin barrier is breached you can experience irritation to any product you apply. Are you allowing your cleanser to touch your lips? What are the ingredients of the Aquaphor? IMO that is more likely to be the problem than the Differin, assuming you are being careful to avoid the lip area when applying and only using a thin layer.

Dr Hauschka Lip Balm is the best I've tried so far. Just put on a thick layer before going to bed and next morning you can see the result.
