Hi there,

I'm hoping you all can help me out with a DIY CEF + jojoba that I want to attempt to make for the very 1st time Very Happy

I want to try Kassey's CEF + jojoba recipe below :

15% Vitamin C, E + FA Serum with Jojoba

1 tsp L-AA
1 tsp SKB
1 tsp Jojoba Oil
3 tsp H2O
1/4 tsp Ferulic Acid
1/4 tsp Vitamin E Oil
1/4 tsp Vodka or Witch Hazel (vodka is best and purest though.)

How do you make it a 20% LAA one? Do you just add more LAA powder or doesn't it work like that?

I have currently purchase the active products from skin actives and I was told this recipe may not last very long. Sad For those of you who have made it how long is it suppose to last? I was told a week without preservatives but I'm pretty sure I read on the very long thread some of you kept it for 2 months. Unless I'm mistaken. If it doesn't last then is there any preservatives that are less 'harmful' that may extend its life(which I am sure to keep in the fridge of course)

Also is the colour suppose to be off white as some have described and what texture is it suppose to have?

Is it 100% necessary to test the PH or will it pretty much be okay if I go according to the recipe.Ive been to 3 chemists(pharmacies) and no one has any do you believe. Otherwise I may order online.

I'm so sorry to add my newbie questions and so sorry if I'm repetitive but these DIY threads are sooooooo long. Sorry for all the questions too Smile

Many thanks in advance and appreciate your time to answer my qu's. Smile

I have seen this video already and notice that preservative is added but in the recipe I'de like to use , the one I mention above, it doesn't so I'm not sure about longevity of the serum. Like I said, I'm pretty sure I read in some threads that people kept it for 2 months and elsewhere like one week so its just a little confusing that's all.

I'm still getting through all the threads. It's just so much for a novice, that's all.
Thnx

Kassy's serum is a good solid serum. As long as you sterilize everything and don't stick your fingers in the bottle, it should keep rather well. The pH is low and not too many microorganisms appreciate that environment. Some do though, so a preservative is not a bad idea if you are not comfy with your own prep cleanliness.

It will Not extend the usable life of the serum. It will only prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi.

1. Won't need to test the pH on that one.
2. Keep in a vacuum bottle to reduce oxidation
3. Keep in fridge
4. Keep it out of the light as that also speeds up oxidation of C.

If I recall correctly that recipe has had the Ferulic acid reduced to 1/8 tsp. [ only need 0.15 grams for 0.5% ] Either way in this case, it won't cause a problem. With other actives, it can be quite problematic.

If you want to get fancy with increasing the % you calculate what you need...and weigh it.

A couple drops of Polysorbate 80 will help to marry the oils and give you a smooth serum.

Have fun!
