I've been using EGF for a few weeks now and i must say i like the results. My skin became plumper and wrinkels less visible. So i am happy.
Or was must i say, because yesterday i read on a few places on the internet that EGF causes hairloss.
I immidiatly stopped using the EGF because i dont want to loose my hair. But i really feel sad because it worked for me very well.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Has anyone used EGF and experienced hairloss ? |

I've not heard about topical EGF causing hair loss. I have an EGF cream that Louisa from Hollywood Beauty Secret (online site) sells and it's lovely. My skin is in really good condition thanks much to the DPL Panels that she sells...and I've only started using the EGF cream very sporadically...but if you have any concerns, I'd give Louisa a call. She's very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. I've never found her to be a hard-sell or pushy in the least. |

I have been using EGF for 5 years, have not experienced hair loss; just keep it away from your hairline. |

"Endogenous EGF, that which your body produces on its own, does have an inhibitory effect on hair growth in specific areas of the skin; namely the beard area of the face and neck, the hairline (where thinning hair is frequently first noticed) and under the arms. This type of hair loss has also been reported as a side effect when EGF is taken internally. It has not yet been reported for topical skin care application."

"I've been battling hair loss (diagnosed as chronic telogen effluvium) for over 2 years. I'd estimate that by January of this year, I'd lost more than 50% of my hair. In late November, I found a site that sells "actives" and they had EGF -- an ingredient in the expensive ReVive line ... Around mid-February, I started shedding hair again. A lot.."

This study is primary research into the function of an enzyme; it's a leap of faith to suggest that EGF in a dilute cosmetic format is toxic. From their literature search
"In the early 1980s, experiments showed that EGF promotes early transition from anagen to catagen, which is associated with decreased proliferation and increased apoptosis (Hollis et al., 1983; Hollis and Chapman, 1987). Genetic loss of function of the EGF receptor in mice causes premature differentiation in the hair bulb along with delayed catagen (Murillas et al., 1995; Hansen et al., 1997). Because excessive EGF signaling promotes catagen and the loss of EGFR promotes premature differentiation, it seems that the dose of EGF signaling in normal anagen is carefully balanced, supporting the relevance of downstream regulators that modulate pathway strength."

A 2mg bolus injection is long way from a 150mcg per gram topical application.

I did not say nothing happened, I simply cast a critical eye over the links you supplied and your inferences. There are many copy-and-paste articles, Chinese Whispers and pseudo-science on the internet; TBH far more rubbish than fact. Reliable source of unbiased healthcare information include US government websites, health charities, universities, studies published in reputable journals, World Health Organisation, UK NHS and so on.
These are far more trustworthy than anecdotal evidence, since few people on forums understand the many and varied causes of alopecia nor the timescales involved. Why don't you e-mail the manufacturer? Perhaps ask for details of all human clinical studies on long term safety and toxicity, either of their product or EGF by the same delivery method. Then make an appointment with your dermatologist for him/ her to review the literature with you. |
