I just started another post about Lemon Oil, but I have another question for you all.
Ive been on the oil control method for a month or so now, and I love the way my skin feels. My skin looks smooth and even toned, and feels clean. I started using the oil method cause I had bought a BHA cleanser that made my skin look horrible. I was desperate, and in searching for answers it led me here, where I learned about oil.
However... I still have large congested looking pores on my nose and forehead. The castor oil seems to lift dirt and oil to the surface, but that is it, its still there.
Do you combine your oil method with any other cleansers, peels, toners etc? I worry about using something harsh because of the way my skin reacted to the BHA cleanser. I do not have acne. One or two occasional pimples with my monthly visitor. Other than that, its pretty clear.. Just my nose has permanent polka dots. What gives? |

Lol, looks liked I'm following you around since I'm the person who just responded first to your lemon oil post!
I use a microfibre cloth, and really need it. I have really stubborn congestion when I let it build up, which basically equaled a wall of gunk stuck on top of my skin. Oil cleansing wasn't enough for me. I still have to do a little extraction, just lightly press a bit from time to time. But yeah, ocm, and then steaming microfibre over my face, and gently wiping does a suprisingly thorough job for me.
I don't need a toner because I haven't messed with the ph balance of my skin using ocm! I actually don't even use a cleanser, just oil to get my makeup off. I just don't want to risk any irritation and haven't tried a cleanser as gentle, or comfortable, as oils are to me now.
I do try a weekly mask of some type (something out of a jar or yogurt, sea kelp, turmeric, honey or asperin (rarely) - whatever I feel like) but its not too necessary - it just makes me feel good, and breaks up the monotony a bit. I also use vitamin c and retin-a a couple times a week, but oh my god, I'm not pushing you to use those by any means! (panic!) I had some damage due to past acne and maybe sun that I'm trying to remedy, otherwise I wouldn't have started down this long and somber road... lol! |

LoriA -Thanks! I have not tried a microfibre cloth. I just used a regular wash cloth..maybe I should get one.
I have pretty much only used ocm since I started. I fear that anything else will change the effects of the ocm. I just read a post here on this EDS Forum about hemp oil, and I think that might be a good one for me to try. |

Microfibre or muslin cloths are excellent for gentle exfoliation with OCM: do use a fresh cloth daily so you are not transferring dead skin and sebum back and forth. Some OCMers find castor oil dehydrates their skin so need to use a lower percentage, 10-50% is the norm.
I have sensitive, combination skin myself that can easily become dry or irritated, and find my pores virtually disappear when every aspect of my routine is hydrating. What are the ingredients of your BHA cleanser - anything drying or irritant other than the salicylic acid? Alternative forms of exfoliation include a very light lactic acid peel and/ or a moisturiser containing urea. These are both found in healthy skin so will not irritate at modest 'doses' as other acids can, and both hydrate as they exfoliate. I have been surprised how well LA cleared the clogged pores on my chin. Like LoriA I perform extractions on my nose, after steaming over a bowl of water. However I get far fewer clogs these days, with my routine being super gentle (especially NO sulphates) and my diet anti-inflammatory.
