Hi,
I was hoping I could get some foundations recommendations. I have oily, acne-prone skin. I've had no luck with foundation. When I first apply foundation it usually looks okay. But within an hour or two it looks horribly powdery (Revlon Colorstay and most mineral foundations do this) or it kind of seperates on my skin? and looks blotchy and weird (Gosh Natural Touch, Bourjois Healthy Mix). I've tried a lot of different mineral foundations, typical drugstore brands and more expensive drugstore brands like Gosh and Bourjois.
I've spent so much money on foundation that just makes me look worse. I don't expect to look flawless, something that just evens out my skintone and makes my acne less noticeable would be fine. I just want it to actually stay on my face and not look weird/powdery/cakey!
I'd REALLY appreciate it if someone could give me some recommendations. I'm pretty much willing to try anything as long as it isn't too expensive (under $40?).
Thank you so much. |

My only advice would be to try samples, enough that last for 1 whole day so you can get an idea of how it wears on the skin. Also perhaps a good primer for oily skin may help.
The only one I found doesn't break up too much throughout the day is EL double wear and double wear light. I don't wear it alot as I prefer mineral foundation but it's pretty good on oily skin. But its a bit more than $40 sorry. Try samples wherever possible. I've tried many drugstore foundations and can't find a good cheapie. |

Thanks for the response dionie! I'll have to look for an oily skin primer. I looked at the EL website and it says double wear is only $35. Not sure how much it'd be locally though. I'll definitely keep it in mind. What mineral foundation do you wear?
I'm not sure where you go to get samples... in like a department store/Sephora or can you get them online? |

Hi,
Some online places post samples, usually I may just pay for postage. You only need to email them and ask.
Usually when I go to a department store I'll act all interested in the foundation and then explain that I have very sensetive skin and would prefer to try before I buy. They usually tell me I can refund it if I get a reaction and I simply reply that I prefer not to go to all that trouble if I can try a sample. Most times they are happy to give them out.OR you can always ask to try it on and wear it for the day and see how you go LOL.
I wear Jane Iredale mineral foundation which is quite nice. I also like Lancome teint idole ultra (not mineral though) & my EL double wear if I want a long lasting foundation. Unfortunately I have just accepted the fact that makeup doesn't last all day on me because of my skin type. The Jane Iredale primer is awesome though., but I havn't tried that many primers and don't know if it makes a HUGE difference.
I so get what you mean about not wanting to spend anymore money. I've spent so much money on foundation. Ugh!!

Hi Lilah_ame
Maxfactor, Lasting Performance,... medium price, find the tone that works for you (I use 102 Pastelle - more or less pale skin). I have a bit of oily skin so it is good for me, a friend with dry skin doesn't like it, it dries her skin too much... Even though it doesn't grease the skin I still have to maybe use powder a bit half way through the day...
Haven't used expensive founders though, so there is probably better products,... still I keep using this one -I buy others to try them out and never use them more than two or three times, so give them away... that's me, I have found that this particular foundation is great for me so I've stopped trying out others. Good luck. |
