I had a severe reaction to it after the 6th day of using it.. I woke up and all around my eyes I had a huge rash and it itched like crazy.. then the next day when I woke up they were sooo swollen.. I looked like I had just been in a terrible fight and I lost lol.. I started taking benedryl to relieve some of the swelling and itching and it took 3.5 days before I looked normal again.. Do you know why this happened to me? Do you think I used to much.. the only place I use it is around my eyes and where you get frown lins between your eyebrows.. I still have it and the place I bought it from said they would take it back and give me store credit but I still want to use it lol.. Can anyone help me please!! Smile

I thought this stuff wasn't supposed to be irritating to the skin?

Wow! You might have just helped me out a lot. I have been using the Prevage and loving it. I have also been doing a series of Chemical Peels. I did one on Thursday and went skiing on Saturday. I started getting red dots on my face Saturday night and Sunday morning i woke up and my eyes were almost swollen shut. I could not figure out what this was from. Maybe the Prevage with downhill skiing irritated my skin from the wind. Were you outside or working out? What did you do before your face was swollen. My red dots went away Saturday night and turned into a swollen mess on my face. -Lauren

I heard there was a bad batch out and about.. maybe we were the not so lucky ones.. UGH!!

perhaps it's a reaction to prevage combined with someone else that you're using. If you want to keep trying it stop using it til you completely clear away the swollen areas, and start slowly, every 2 to 3 days maybe?

The only thing that I would have used over the prevage would be rose hip oil or my mary k day cream with spf 15 in it.. That's it!

I really don't know anything about prevage..I wonder if it makes your skin sensitive to weather?

I'm guessing here

I hadn't been outside the whole week I was using it.. I know that sounds terrible.. I have just been doing stuff in the house.. you know, winter cleaning and such.. I'm a stay at home mom.. The only thing I did the day I got the rash was cry and I figured seen as how I cried before I went to bed that was the reason my eyes were puffy when I woke up cause that usually happens to me, but it didn't go away as the day went on.. it just got worse..

I think it might have been the moisture on our face, yours from crying and mine from skiing. This might have even gotten into our eyes by wiping them. This would have passed through the bloodstream and possibly caused a contact dermatitis. I used Hydracortisone that i had gotten from the downstairs derm office were i work. That cleared everything up in like 2 hours. I should have thought of this yesturday. Just be careful not to get it near your eyes. -Lauren

You might be right.. I was going to try it again but I'm not going to now.. it's not worth it.. The next reaction might be worse and I don't want to chance it!!.. Good luck with it if you still use it!

I have been using Prevage for about two weeks. I also purchased the product from Lovely Skin.com. Initially, I used the product on my entire face, which seemed to create a breakout (even on my cheeks, where I do not normally get pimples). At the same time that I started Prevage, I also started a program of Avage, which could have also been the culprit (since I had quit using Avage for some time). I decided to continue with the regimine......but modified it a bit. I only used prevage under my eye area in the morning and the evening (everyday). I cut down on the Avage, only using it in the evening, every other night. I also began to use a topical acne med in the evenings. The result: things have settled down a bit. My acne is disappearing and the eye area seems to "molt" every night when I wash with warm water and soap. The dead skin peels away to reveal pink, new skin underneath. My fine lines and been reduced dramatically. This is especially so right after I apply the Prevage. You can really see the difference. This is only after two weeks.

I am curious to see how others are doing with the product. Let me know!!!

My Prevage experience has been non-eventful so far after 3 weeks of use. I've been applying it once a day at bedtime, but after thinking it was improving my skin at first (wishful thinking?), I have to honestly say that I notice no improvement. I'm hoping this won't end up like other expensively disappointing creams I've bought (StriVectin) after succumbing to the usual hype that accompanies a new product launch. But I will keep at it and reserve final judgement until 6 weeks of use and let you know! I've liked other Allergan products so maybe there's reason to hope. Any suggestions from people who feel it's worth it are welcome!!!

So this is a response to the woman who was using chemical peels and using prevage.
Were the chemical peels administered by you or by the doctor? Read this article on self administering kits becuase it talks about how you can make your skin abnormally sensitive. Then, using prevage on top of these processes can easily cause your skin to become irritated. (my mother's a dermatologist so I have a little inside information...)

Here's the link.

My own personal experience with Prevage has been pretty wonderful. It's ingredient (idebenone) is stronger than coenzyme Q10 (the once strongest antioxident) and this strength my also be the reason for your reaction. Just try to keep it away from your eyes!

!help my graduate thesis and do my skin care survey (what you like in skin care products)!

Thanks! Very Happy

I, too, am having an allergic reaction which I believe is related to Prevage. How long did your reaction last and what did you do for it? Thanks for your help.

I had a severe rash around my eyes that spread to my entire face and neck after using Prevage for about 6 weeks. I wasn't sure if it was the Prevage because I had been using it for awhile. But then I tested the inside of my arm and broke out again. I checked with my doctor's office (where I had purchased this product), and I was told that this was occurring in others after about 6 weeks' usage. Unfortunately, the early clinical trials studied subjects during the first 4 weeks of usage only. I do not have super-sensitive skin and have never had a rash from a skin product before. I won't use this product again -- the rash was terrible and took about a week to recover from.

Now I'm a person whose skin reacts badly to just about everything ... so this thread really got my attention. Laughing

I went to lovelyskin.com and found the following disclaimer re Prevage:

Quote:
For First Time Users
This anti-aging treatment is clinically proven to help protect and restore skin. It contains Idebenone, one of the most powerful and effective antioxidants on the market today. As with every new technology, there may be a low incidence of people experiencing mild irritation or rash.

In the event that you are one of the few, please discontinue use and consult a physician. If you've ever experienced sensitivity to a new product, you might want to perform a patch test prior to use. Apply a small amount to your inner arm for a consecutive three day period.

So clearly they had some problems with both a rash and irritation.

The other thing to consider is that sometimes it's not the active that's the problem but all the other junk the company has put into the product.

I was unable to find a list of ingredients ... but therein could lie your problem(s).

I seem to react badly to some emulsifiers ... and can wear very few commercial products. Creams in general will break me out.

Now Idebenone is oil soluable ... as is CoQ10 ... so if you got hold a Idebenone in capsule form, and dissolved it in the appropriate amount of oil ... and tried it on your skin ... you may find that the Idebenone is fine for you ... just not the other junk that the company has included in the product.

Just a thought ... Smile

Mary
