First let me say how much I love this site & cant belive how you know so much.

Anyway I really need help.
I have very small fine lines near my eyes (& top of my cheekbones) I went to enquire about professional micro dermabrasion. The specialist I saw talked me out of micro & suggested I should start off with a something such as MD Formulations facial cleanser (with the 12% glycolic acid).

What I would like to know is this really any good?
Does it really diminish fine lines?

I have never used anything with glycolic acid so what advice can you give a first timer?

My friend said that 12% is too weak & that I would be wasting my time – do you think that’s true?

im really not too sure what to do. i dont want go out & spend heaps of money on products that wont work - believe me i've done that before

sounds a bit like the sun damage/ageing that I have. To be honest I've not noticed a difference with that kind of cream/cleanser in reducing lines, it will help clear dead skin of your face though. Perhaps they want to try you with something mild to begin with?

One thing I do notice is when I'm dehydrated they show more. So that would be my first thing to do.

Second of all I would consider using a vit.c product to help strengthen the collagen in that area followed by a hyaluronic acid, that is a foundation for plumping out those lines, there are several brands on EDS, check out Cellex-c and Skinceuticals, they are very popular. Also a newish one which I'm using is the AlphaDerma.
Please check out past threads with the search facility. Hope that is some help!

I think they may have a good point. First, the lines could be dehydration lines and might disappear if you started driking more water or using a richer eye cream perhaps?

I would recommend the MDF Vit-a-plus eye cream as it's formulated for the eye area and has AHAs to exfoliate the skin. This should result in shallower lines because you are getting rid of the dead skin cells and effectively resurfacing the skin.

Sorry, I'm hoping someone will explain it better Embarassed I'm actually coming down with something today and have a temp of 38.9 deg (as I just found out a few minutes ago!). So I'm blaming my fever for anything silly I've said here today Cool

ETA: Definitely with Eve on the vit C / argireline recommendations. Top idea that! But you should still have something with glycolic acid to exfoliate before you use those.

Half dead and still helping! What a trooper! Very Happy

Re the glycolic acid, 12% is plenty strong enough...you can get good effects if you use a lower% peel than a high one if you use it for longer and you don't risk damaging your skin.

PS to regulars....do you think I should include the link to my acid peel nightmare as part of my sig? Laughing

Thanks guys! Not really helping though - I logged off and completely forgot to draw the voucher Shock About to do that now.

I agree with Guapa - 12% or 10% is plenty - especially when you're talking about the eye area! And yeah - I think the link should be a part of your sig Guapa! It's for the good of others!

thanks for you help.

i do think my skin is a bit hydrated. im pretty healthy so i think my lines are an age issue as i drink heaps of water, stay out of the sun/wear sunscreen, dont smoke etc.

im rapt on all your advice - i think i'll look into the 12% cleanser & the vitamin c serum as suggested.
thanks Smile
