I've used Amazon for years and generally love it. Once in a blue moon I have a problem with them though.
Recently I purchased a laptop battery from a seller on Amazon with a 98% rating. The battery arrived quickly but it was damaged beyond use.
I contacted the seller and even sent a picture of the damaged product. He said he had sent out a replacement but expects me to return the damaged item back (with a tracking number) and, once he receives it, will give me a partial payment for the shipping. WTH? I have to go out of my way to repackage this battery, drive to the post office, pay for confirmation and shipping, and this guy will only refund me a partial shipping charge? Unbelieveable!
I've never had this happen to me before. Usually when I receive a damaged product from Amazon or a seller they just tell me to keep it or throw it away and they'll send out a replacement.
I've already contacted Amazon only to be told that each seller has a different policy and that I should just ask them why they don't send out a postage paid return label. Yeah, like I already didn't that.
How do you think I should go about handling this? |

| Can you dispute the charge with your credit card company? Then post a bad review of the seller. |

Amazon has a file a claim option, and call and call and call again. I have had to do it all with one seller and I got my refund on something he claimed to have sent, but never did. Basically be the "squeaky wheel".  |

Thank you both. Yeah, I will most likely file a dispute. I just hate it when sellers do not act professional about these matters.
I've been a seller on amazon and ebay for years. I've had customers asking for a refund because they didn't like the product or it was the wrong size. For, this, yes I would expect them to pay for the shipping to return it. But if I product I sold them arrived damaged because it was not packaged with greater care, I would never ask them to pay for the shipping to return it...or return it at all.
I guess that is what I am mostly surprised about. The gall that he expects me to pay even a partial amount to send this damaged battery back.  |
