I'm in a dilemma, first of all I have old highlights I'm trying to grow out, my hair is my natural colour on top with fried, dried up old highlights on the ends. It looks horrible to me! What would you suggest I should do, I was thinking of just dying it one colour but I don't want to damage it anymore...I also don't suit short hair so I don't even want to talk about cutting it off! Maybe a semi permanent like casting or natural instincts in a darker shade to tone down the lighter ends? What do you think? Donna Smile

Hi Donna, what colour is your hair naturally? I wouldnt dye it one colour without seeking professional advice. In 5 or 6 weeks after you have dyed it, you will have roots and it will need re dying and so on, your hair wont really have time to recover. If you can't bare to have it cut, how about a good trim every 5 or 6 weeks, and gradually cut all the dry hair off. If its really long, how about tying it up for a while and give it a rest from styling. A great shampoo and conditioner for dry hair is Aveda Sap Moss. Its really gorgeous to use, the shampoo actually works harder than the conditiner but Im not sure if it available to you where you are? Its worth looking for. Also MOP Vitamin C shampoo and conditioner for dry hair is good but the Aveda is the best. Good luck.

Thanks Cindi, my hair is naturally light brown...I agree that I should leave well enough alone, thats what got me in this trouble in the first place Rolling Eyes .
I guess I will continue with the monthly trims and condition the heck out of it...I will try to look for that line of products you mentioned, if I can't find it here, I can probably find it in the U.S.A!! Thanks again for your help!!

Hi Moosette! Aveda is available in Canada - I'd bet my bottom dollar you can find it somewhere in your town/city -- I'm in Ottawa and it's all over the place!
Good Luck!

Oh boy, you sound just like me!! I have naturally med/light brown hair and got heavy highlights put in a few months ago. They have already turned a funny yellow. My hair is relatively short so cutting more off right now is not an option~I just purchased Natural Instincts last night in Linen(med. ash blonde) hoping to neutralize some of the highlights. We'll see.....I plan on doin g it tonite when hubby gets home so he can watch our three little monkeys and I can give my hair my full attention! Cross your fingers for me~

OK guys~we have a winner!!!!!!! (whew!) Never quite know what to expect when I venture out on my own and try to decide what over the counter color will look good. But, this time, I think I got it right. I used a medium ash blonde and it is a really pretty color. I almost went with the dark ash blonde, afraid the medium ash wouldn't cover enough. But as usual, the color on the box is lighter than what actually came out on my head. The only drawback is, who knows how it will look after three/four shampoos. My hair was so heavily lifted I have a feeling it will fade into some strange color again in no time. Oh well.....tonight I am happy! By the way, I highly reccommend Natural Instincts. I've used many shades and I am usually pretty satisfied. Plus it is gentle. My only advice is to be wary of the color on the box. As with most haircolor, the shade seems to be darker on your head than the actual picture. Ciao, guys!

I have been bleaching my hair for ages and it was in really bad condition so i decided to grow it out as to not damage it any more but i didn't want roots so last week we put a brown on it and then left the conditioner, which you get with it on my hair under a towel for about 20mins. My hair is still damaged, obviously, but it looks much better because the colour is shinier and it feels so much softer. Don't worry about putting another dye on over the bleach because it won't do any more damage and it will look much nicer. Just make sure you use good products for dry/damaged and coloured hair. Good Luck hunni, Hope it goes ok whatever you decide and keep on getting the ends trimmed regularly to prevent splitting.Very Happy

hi moosette, i do this one all the time. i always get my hair highlighted then decide i don't want it latter on, so i use a washout semi-permanent hair colour because it will blend with your natural colour and will not leave a line. i pick one shade darker than my natural, light brown-med brown. i get the dark brown and by the time it washes out the highlighted parts match my natural roots. the highlighted parts hold the colour. also i use a good salon shampoo and conditioner. i recommended BIOLAGE REPLENISHING SHAMPOO and the CONDITIONING BALM. after i shampoo and condition my hair i towel it dry abit and then i use JOICO'S ALTIMA LEAVE-IN/WASH OUT CONDITIONER. the next day just rinse out your leave-in conditioner (don't wash your again) and then towel dry your hair and put in some leave-in again. try not to wash your hair to much. maybe get a bit of your ends trimmed if to dry, but the leave-in conditoner will help. don't use the spray leave-in conditioners. good luck, gaffer
