Hi. Has anyone experienced loss of pigment..mainly on the arms? I've lived in the tropics for a little over half my life now and am fair complected. It starts out a kind of redish brown color, the size of an eraser then eventually becomes white.
It has traveled all over my forearms. I once heard there was a product for this condition but didn't act on it at the time. Oh, I have always used a good quality sunscreen. Can anyone give any suffestions? Thanks, Gina- |

Hi Gina!
I'm not sure what it is but I read a while back about a condition called Vitiligo in which melanin cells die creating white patches of skin. It affects 2% of the population and doesn't have anything to do with sun exposure. I don't think there is much you can do about the patches that you already have but you can use products like CoverDerm to cover them up if you're feeling self-concious about it.
I am not a dermatologist, I'm just telling you what I read. It would probably be best for you to go see a dermatologist though.
I googled and found the following short article you may like to read http://www.vh.org/adult/patient/internalmedicine/aba30/1996/splotch.html for more info.

Hey thanks for the responce you guys. I just have brown spots on my face..which is a pain. My husband call them my freckles. The ones on my arm are white.
So maybe I can halt the new ones? You know that's what I heard to...vitiligo, but there is supose to be a cream that takes care of it. I'll read the article you posted the link to and keep looking. Thanks, Gina- |
