I was born in 1946, turning 66 in May.
For some reason I got to thinking today about the most degrading pair of shoes my mother made me wear in grade school (1950's). I went thru shoes pretty fast so she made me wear those gaud awful black and white oxfords. I so hated my mom during that time (God rest her soul). Of course I got thru it just as she knew I would. I wish with all my heart I could spend $3.98 and send her a mother’s day card next month.
My dad worked in the aerospace industry as a machinist during the war. He did sign up but for some reason he wasn’t accepted, maybe because of his age. I have 2 items from that time in our history. Ration stamps and a letter from Lockheed Aircraft Company about my dad receiving a $500 reward for some idea that was used. I am certain that $500 was a lot of money back in the 40's.
That was fun reminiscing; anybody else have something to share? |
