Another layering question! So, I'm just wondering if there are any contradictions to layering products with higher percentages (5%) of Niacinimide. My skin LOVES Niacinimide and I've been using Niacinimide forever. I routinely layer products with Niacinimide because it's in all of my serums and creams and so on. So there's no problems with that for me. But I'm just wondering if the same goes for products with HIGHER percentages of Niacinimide.

For example, I'm going to be starting a serum with 5% Niacinimide soon, but I've also got my eye on Nia24 Skin Strengthening Complex (even though I'm nervous about it having some Vitamin A Confused) The Nia24 SSC contains 5% "Myristyl Nicotinate" (Nia24's version of Niacinimide) and of course I'd have to test it and see how skin responds etc. etc. But what I'm wondering is if it's safe to layer products if they both contain 5% Niacinimide (or if one contains 5% Myristyl Nicotinate) I just want to make sure no problems would arise etc.

I've layered products with Niacinimide (a serum and cream) with the EltaMD spf 46 UV clear sunscreen (which contains 5% Niacinimide) and that was perfectly fine, if not all the more fantastic for my skin. (Except for the sunscreen being drying.) But I've never layered TWO products both with 5% Niacinimide. (And I'm not asking if it's "overkill" or anything of that sort, in case I get responses like that lol. Just asking if it's a non-issue.) I suspect it would be fine with how much my skin loves Niacinimide, but I just wanted to be sure there is nothing wrong with doing that, in case anyone might know.

TIA everyone Very Happy

NIA says this on their FAQ page:

Quote:
Can I layer the Sun Damage Prevention 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 with the Skin Strengthening Complex and if so, which product should I use first?
Yes, NIA24® products can be layered. Apply the Skin Strengthening Complex first, followed by the Sun Damage Prevention 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 to ensure that the sunscreen benefits are not diluted. Allow several minutes for the SPF 30 to be absorbed prior to make-up application.

By layering the Skin Strengthening Complex along with the Sun Damage Prevention 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, will I be getting too much Pro-Niacin®, the active ingredient?
No. The extensive clinical and safety testing conducted on the Pro-Niacin® molecule and NIA24® products have shown no unexpected side effects or reactions. Instead, clinical studies have shown dramatic improvements in skin health with use of the NIA24® products.

If I use several or all of the NIA24® products, could I risk applying too much Niacin?
Your skin's nutritional needs are affected daily by numerous factors such your environment, level of skin damage, diet, and skin type. Your skin will only absorb what it can use and because Niacin is a water-soluble, what is not used is flushed without danger of toxicity.

Both their products mentioned above contain 5% each (see Pro-Niacin FAQ tab) of their Pro-Niacin® molecule (which they say is nicotinic acid and a lipophilic tail) so layering doesn't appear to be a problem. Not sure how Pro-Niacin® differs from Niacinamide in terms of tolerance, however, so you may want to consider emailing them to confirm.

HTHs!
