I know alcohol should be avoided in products but are all types of alcohol harmful to skin ones such as [b]Alcohol Denat, Benzyl Alcohol, Cinnamyl Alcohol are they all bad? |

flick24, have you seen the "Cosmetics Cop" ingredient dictionary (from Paula Begoun)? Maybe you could look up these ingredients on there? You can just type it into google. You might find that ingredient dictionary helpful. |

Not all alcohol is bad for the skin. There was a thread on this a while back and Dark Moon provided information on this very topic. Perhaps if you PM her she will provide you with it. From what I remember cetyl alcohol is actually an emollient. There are probably around 4 or 5 different alcohols.
I hope this helps a little. |

No, not all alcohol's in products are bad for your skin. I have read many places that some alcohols are derived from coconut oil. For some reason most things with alcohol, even the ones that are okay for you, still dry my skin out as well as irritate so I try to avoid them.
Hope this helps! |

Maybe this will help:
Here is a breakdown of the most commonly used alcohols for both skin and hair products:
Skin
Cetyl, cetearyl, cetostearyl, cetyl 40 alcohol – usually derived from coconut oil, these are called fatty alcohols and have a long molecular chain. These act as hydrators and emulsifiers to create a creamy consistency for facial and body moisturizers, and shampoos and conditioners.
C12-15 alcohol.
Stearyl alcohol – acts as a moisturizing agent.
Lanolin – derived from the sebaceous (oil) glands from sheep and acts as an emollient.

You are welcome leelee,
I know people see Alcohol and it is natural to think of those that are stripping and drying, yet many are quite the opposite!

like darkmoon said Im fine with the fatty alcohols, they give me nice slip in products, but i canNOT have the drying ones. I had a hair leave in shine spray with alcohol as the first ingredient it just doesn't make sense.. its meant to moisturise??
I have to put alcohol in my C serum and Ive only just got my head around that |
