It's a good thing I didn't read the MUA reviews of this before I went shopping, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it and missed out on one of the best lip balms I've ever used! I didn't know it at the time I bought it, but this stuff was recently voted "Best Lip Balm in the World" by readers of the New York Times, and it's apparently 'Hollywood's hottest lip balm' right now, too -- not that I'm influenced by such trivial and superficial things like that! I'm not as good at writing reviews as our resident reviewing queen, Miss Mabsy, but I'll try to do my best....
The folks on MUA said this was basically glorified Vaseline, but I have to say that mere Vaseline never felt so good on my mouth!! And, according to the ingredients (see below), there isn't a trace of petroleum jelly anywhere in it. This lip balm is a rich, smooth, silky treatment that feels like heaven on my lips! Most lip balms feel like they're lubricating the surface of your lips, but this stuff actually seems to have some good staying power so that I didn't feel the constant need to reapply it. It leaves my lips feeling soft and moisturized without being sticky or greasy -- it just sinks right into my lips. There's a slight, pleasant fragrance (sorry, I'm not much good at describing scents...I just know when I don't like them or they trigger a migraine!!), but nothing overpowering and there really doesn't seem to be much taste (unlike Decleor's lip balm, which I'll review later) and it imparts a slight glossy finish (nowhere near as dramatic as the Decleor's glossing power!).
You can buy it in three different packaging options:
• 0.3 ounce aluminum squeeze tube for $20USD;
• 0.13 ounce twist-bottom tube (like a lipstick, or stick version of Dr. H's lip balm) for $32USD, which is apparently Jurlique's best-selling product -- it's actually called "Natural Lip Balm Stick;"
• 1 ounce jar for $62.50 USD (I'll be buying this one when I run out!!)
The skincare/beauty boutique where I bought mine offered both the squeeze tube and the stick version but I opted for the former as it was cheaper, just in case I didn't like it. Now I *do* have to agree with the reviewers on MUA who said the metal squeeze tube isn't going to stay pretty for long (i.e.: they wrinkle up, crack and ooze), and I'll likely have a hard time getting the last little bit out of the tube when it gets empty. To nullify this problem, I've squeezed some of the product out into an old, flat lipgloss pan that I recycled and cleaned out. I use this for my daily application and when it starts to get empty, I'll just add more from the squeeze tube.
The thing I like most about this lip balm is that it actually feels like it penetrates my lips rather than just sitting on the surface. For this reason, I've been using this product more at bedtime as an overnight lip treatment because I don't feel like it rubs off during the night like my new Decleor lip balm, which I also love and will be reviewing later. When I use the Decleor at bedtime, I wake up and my lips feel kinda dry and it's because the 'slicker' Decleor formulation rubbed off on the pillowcase or sheet during a restless night which instantly makes me reach for lip balm upon waking, but I don't get that with the Jurlique. I put it on before going to sleep and I wake up to lips that still feel moist and dewy.
This is kinda hard to explain but after applying the Jurlique, a couple minutes later if I rub my lips together, they feel slick and lubricated, but if I actually put my finger on my lip and touch it, it doesn't feel like there's any 'goo' on my mouth (again, unlike the Decleor). I haven't "road-tested" this theory yet as my man is out of town, but I would guess that the Jurlique lip balm would be more popular with boyfriends who prefer to kiss lips au naturel, rather than those that feel goopy and slick!! Of course, the obvious solution would be not to wear any lip balm at all when making out, but I absolutely cannot tolerate not wearing *something* on my mouth at all times! So it isn't always easy to find a lip product that both my boyfriend and I can agree on, but I have a feeling he's going to like this one....
Bottom line: I absolutely adore this stuff and will always keep a supply on hand...unless, of course, something better comes along!
Carrie
P.S. For those obsessive label-readers among us, here's the ingredients to the Jurlique Lip Care Balm:

I don't post like the rest of you but I certainly have been reading this forum for over 6 months.
Carrie I must try this lip balm!!! I found that your HA Capsules work but I still need more work for the lip area.
Keep up your great posts. Will let you be the tester of lip products and then I will buy.

Thanks for that Carrie! I haven't tried this but, being addicted to lipbalms, I'll give this a go From what you wrote it sounds fantastic! I'm really looking forward to trying it now.
I actually have some Myer (dept store) vouchers to use up so I'll get this in the next few days |

Carrie........have you tried the Pevonia lip serum and cream yet? I did an initial review on it awhile back.
I still like it. I noticed when I get lazy and don't use it...my lips just don't look as good. Kind of like when I don't take the HA supplements.
The lipcream sinks in like this one...I'd be curious to see what you think since you are the lip guru....I think I'll try this.
Actually, I sometimes mix a little of the lip products I like figuring, I'll get the best of all of them! |

I love Jurlique's Lip Care balm too. But, I do find it a bit too pricy for my budget. My next pick is Decleor's lip balm....a little cheaper. |

I have enough lip balms for a platoon's worth of lips. I have been looking at the Jurlique lip balm with interest. Maybe next order. |

Weeellll, it was a LONG time ago when I reviewed this Jurlique lip balm and I've found something better since then. I mean, it's nice, but I don't use it anymore.... |

No, I haven't -- any chance you can send me a link from a site where I can order it? I wonder if they sell samples...? |

I have the driest lips on earth. I have tried so many lip balms, Kiehl's, Aesop, you name it, and none of them worked. I thought I was cursed to have chapped lips for my whole life until I discovered Jurlique.
It truely transformed my lips! Now I have lips like a normal person! |
