Hi Aprile,

Thank you so much for your response and the link, that is reassuring to know. I've done 3 treatments on level 2 and already have the sandpaper skin so something seems to be working!

Thank you again for your response!

Hi Pandora - If you feel it's too drying you can also back down to level 1. It takes getting used to!! PQ also advised me to stay at leavel 2 for awhile since my skin is very sensitive and dry and assured that I would still get results. he was right... I do have lines and saw a definite softening. However, for me its always trying to maintain that delicate balance to keep my skin looking moist! Wishing you all the best, Aprile

I agree with Aprile - less is best for sensitive skin. Always err on the side of caution in that case.
I use a 3 and have combo-oily skin and 3 is not fun. Razz I'd be glad to do 2 but it won't get me anywhere. Listen to your body.

I must admit this is something I was concerned about as well as its hard to do every night. I have just started round 3 but I can still only go to level 2 its just about as painful as I can bear, unfortunately I can't ever see me making it to level 3

Hello all, thank you again for the advice so far! Just to update I have done about 8 treatments with the tria so far mostly at level two and while my skin is dry it is more of the sort of sandpaperish feeling which I think is normal. Last week I had a couple of days where my skin did look really good but this week it looks a bit worse. I was going to do another treatment tonight but I am noticing some very small red blood vessels on the tip of my nose (where I am using the tria to try and treat some enlarged pores) and under my eye area. I am not prone to broken capillaries at all so It is a bit worrying I would hate to end up with this as an additional problem. Perhaps it is normal to have some tiny ones during treatment that go away as you progress? I have also had the cold and so maybe blowing my nose while it was healing from the laser has caused them to appear?

Is there anything I can use to help repair them? I have an led device if that might help?

Hi Pandora - Trust your body. If your skin is drying out, it could be because you need to cut back. Every other day will work just as well. OR go back down to level 1 or 2 depending upon what level you're using. You also need to exfoliate those dead cells on the surface of your skin with a gentle exfoliate like NCN's aqua gel. It is exfoliating but not irriating or drying. Just a thought, if you are living in a climate where the temperature is colder now, and the heat is on, that too will affect the skin and make it more dry and sensitive, so that could be adding to the sandpaper effect. A friend of mine who is also using the Tria noticed broken caps on her face where she claims she did not have before. She is very fair skinned, but has much thicker skin than me and I have not had that happen to me, so go figure. It could be what you said, blowing your nose too hard., although I would think that would mostly occur inside the nose, and cause nose bleeds. Although I do think temperature change might cause caps to emerge. I don't know much about the healing ability of the LED, I would think it would depend upon which device you have. I would keep an eye on it and avoid that area for now and see if it resolves itself. Also, I remember that the Tria does have a number you can call for advice, you should check and see. They might be able to help.

Thank you aprile for your advice. I am in the north of the UK so it is getting pretty cold at the moment. It is just so unlike me to get them as my skin is hile fair very thick and I never had any issue with them before. I am not really doing that many treatments so I have done 8 over abut 3 weeks. My skin isn't really sensitive, just a bit red from the treatments. I didn't realise I have to exfoliate the sandpaper skin off as normally it has just been drying up and falling off after a couple of days. I might be rubbing at it a bit though absent mindedly to that won't help!
I will perhaps wait another night before my next treatment and then avoid any areas that are affected by the little capilleries. I will call Tria but I am aware they don't actually specify the nose as a treatment area and I have been treating it as it is one of my worst areas. However the under eye area at the top of my cheek is so I could ask them about that.
Do you or anyone else know if it is ok to change the treatment level mid treatment say from level 2 to 1 for sensitive areas?
I checked out the NCN Aqua Gel which looks like it is being discontinued. There is still the Cure Aqual Gel which is expensive and would take a month to be delivered! If anyone has any tips on products I can buy in boots or from a uk website I'd be very grateful.

Thank you again for all your help Aprile!

I have to add my 2 cents worth. It's normal for your skin to be like sandpaper...you're damaging it with the laser so that it will rebuild collagen to repair the damage. I have found that towards the end of my 8 week treatment...the skin actually doesn't feel as dry. So, even if it's dry, don't back off the laser. It's doing what it is supposed to do. Now, I'm on my 5th round of treatments and I am finally able to tolerate level 3 and not be red the next day...so FINALLY I've gotten there. So, it is possible to achieve a higher level...it took me just over a year of treatments.

Thanks Shamus, I probably agree with you that the sandpaper feeling skin is normal and part of the process. Currently I am really only concerned about the broken caps that have appeared on my nose. So far all I can see in this thread and online is that laser is supposed to treat broken caps not cause them. Photoqueen said that they helped with his broken caps but he doesn't seem to be around any more unfortunately. Could it possibly be older, under the surface damage that is coming up like they say happens with pigmentation?

Perhaps I should just email tria and see what they say.

I am just starting round 2 at level 3 and I feel nothing. Occasionally, I feel a warm sensation at the corners of my mouth but nowhere else. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

I have not used the tria as much as you but I find it really stings and makes my eyes water a bit! Perhaps you are just more tolerant of pain or have got used to the device. I am sure I remember people saying further back in the thread to clean the laser window as it can get dirty and block some of the laser so maybe try that if you haven't already?

Apart from that how are you getting on with the laser are you happy so far?

Stovetop, have you tried gently cleaning the laser window with a dry or slightly damp q-tip. I thought my skin had gotten used to the laser because I wasn't feeling much of anything on my second round at level 3, but after cleaning the window it felt just like it did in the beginning. I would clean it after every second or third treatment to make sure you are getting the most out of the device. HTHs, doodles.

Shamus,
Since you have used the Tria longer, I wonder what your take is on treating the nose. I had gone over the top area only a few times in the past. It isn't easy to get contact for long on that area. My pores appear quite large and I wonder if you tackled the nose, and if so, what were your results. Would you recommend it?
I have just started my 4th round of treatment.
Still extremely happy with my results.

Very Happy

pandora77 - doodles - I have been cleaning the laser window daily with a q tip and other than it is an excellent exfoliation device, I am not seeing any results. Pigmentation - while minimal - has shown no improvement and the same with wrinkles and pore size. I will call Customer Service today - thanks for your advice.

2Marie...unfortunately I've never treated my nose. I don't have large pores...or maybe it's because I use my clarisonic religiously...and that's the reason I don't have large nose pores. Sorry, can't help you on this one...but it must be awful to try to keep the contact on your nose!

Shamus, how are you finding it on level 3? I am still struggleing a lot with redness on level 2,I am on my 3rd round now but just can't see me getting to level 3 with this continued redness. Also, what results are you getting now you have done so many rounds?

Zelda...I was like you on Level 2. I found even that level painful and the few times I tried level 3 (previously), I could maybe do one treatment but the next day, my skin was still so sore, the thought of layering another treatment on top brought tears to my eyes. Now though,(for the last 2 weeks) I have been doing all of my treatments on level 3 and my face isn't nearly as painful even right after a treatment. Now, for results, I'm still working on those non smoker's lines and they're still there, but not nearly as bad. I'm actually excited to see the results after doing 1/2 of this treatment round on level 3. My neck is really much much better. I turkey skin is much much smoother! I've seen the fastest and most profound improvement on my hands. Oh, the veins are still there but the crepiness of the skin on the backs of my hands is completely gone! I used to be able to pinch a bunch of skin from my hand and now I can't. I'll be on my rest period in mid November so I'll report back what these results yielded, seeing that 1/2 were at the level 3. But, I'm thrilled that in the course of the last year, my deep lines have gotten better (not as much as I'd like but at least better...and not worse, as is the normal course of aging).

Nice to see people getting results re: wrinkle reduction!! I have only completed one 8-week treatment round thus far. I decided not to do round two during the summer months. But, I have super sensitive skin so I DO need to be careful in the winter months as well with the heat on in the house again drying me up even moreso. HOWEVER, I was able to progress to Level 3, albeit temporarily. I never got the sandpaper effect or lots of flakes. I just attribute that to everyone being so different. I will check to see if my window is clogged with the Q-tip.. thanks for that reminder! Anyway, I still think it's a good idea to use something like NCN Aqua gel or The Cure to get rid of the excess flakes... makes wearing makeup a whole lot easier. Getting geared up for round two after my skn calms down a little from the climate change. Would like to see more in the way of wrinkle reduction. I think the Pico has definitely helped me with pore refinement, although I don't quite understand why. Best, Aprile Smile

I hope this hasn't already been asked/answered, but is there any way to buy the Tria Skin Laser in the USA? I'm also traveling to Dubai around Christas and wondered if it was available there? I'm stopping in London to change planes and if I thought there was enough time to run to a nearby shop and buy one I would! Laughing

Thanks so much Seamus. Does anyone know if its o.k. to use Hydraluron whilst using Tria? I use the Indeed Labs version.

I had heard a while back that they were getting ready to launch in the U.S. with a QVC offer by the end of the year. We're getting there, so I guess that would be soon. I would email the company. Very Happy

I have been thinking about my issue with noticing broken capillaries since using the Tria laser. I have had a break from the laser for about a week now and in inspecting my skin tonight I can see that I do have a fair few tiny broken capillaries around my nose and chin mainly. Over the past 20 years I have assulted my skin on and almost daily basis squeezing blackheads and spots as well as TCA Peels, harsh acne medications, frankly bizarre skincare regimes and so on and I think this might be what has caused the capillary damage which has become more apparent after using the Tria laser. My nose has always been very conjested with large, scarred pores and is really one of my worst areas.

My nose tonight after just 8 treatments with the Tria one week from my last treatment does look a lot smoother and is a lot less conjested and bumpy with the less severe large or scared pores looking a lot better which is impressive given the time scale. Perhaps it is improvement which has made my existing thread veins suddenly noticeable to me?

Most of the information I read online about laser treatment is that it helps with spider viens so I am going to continue with the Tria and look into possible specialist laser treatment for vascular issues if needed.

A pervious poster asked about treating the nose and I wanted to say I use the tria on my nose and while it is tricky to get consistant contact I manage ok especially over the tip or bridge of the nose, however I have quite a broad fleshy nose which perhaps makes it easier than it would be for those with small noses.

well, hello everyone!

i did a google search on my new toy, and found this post - and this forum. and boy, have i learned a lot (dermarolling, needling - agh!)

i've now done 3 treatments w/my tria. last one the only time i've gone to 2 - and frankly, not sure if i'll ever be able to hit 3 on my face. not just the intensity, but the length of the treatment is scary!

it might be psychosomatic - or maybe my face is just swollen! - but i already see a difference in my pores and my (earned!) smoker's lines. i did ONE treatment on my hands at 3, and i swear there's already a difference. i'm pretty pumped!

anyway - have read all 38 pages of this puppy and would love some opinions on process...

1. i'm in canada - based on google, amazon or yesstyle are the only places i can find cure aqua gel...? or is there another type that's similar...?(the nanci one also mentioned in this thread is discontinued).

2. i do not find the tria after care serum all that relieving. and do not want to break the bank for a replacement. aloe gel was mentioned - if you're using it - what do you think? do you layer an oil or anything on top of it (i'm using avocado currently) or do you need to wash it off first?

3. my skin is CRAZY dry, and the idea that in a couple of days my face will be even drier/sandpapery makes me nervous! any recommendations for a good, rich cream i can use during the treatments that will help balance out the drying? (prob not smart to start this journey at the cusp of the cold canadian winter!)

4. some posters seem to have found SOME tightening and some seem to have found none. but that's my hot topic - my problem are jowls. total droopy dog action. outside of another electric tool - what else should i be doing for those? is there ANYTHING topical that would work?

appreciate in advance (very much!) any responses. oh, and btw: 44, 20 year social smoker (w/the wrinkles to prove it!), before tria, was using dr. brandt's overnight resurfacing serum. use oil of olay prox age repair, with advocado or argan oil at night. (i know that's not sufficient for the mess on my face, but i'm still learning!)

Hi Gertie and welcome to the forum! The tria can be very drying. I did see improvements after a few treatments on level 1 myself which were definitely due to mild inflamation...sorry to burst your bubble. But having said that, after one eight week round o level 2, I saw smaller pores and lessened non-smoker lines... I have found what really seems to help after treating with laser is rehydrating the skin with something other than a serum. I didn't like Tria's serum either, nor did I find it very *calming*. You could opt for almond oil or some other hydrating oil. I have sensitive, drier skin and am currently using a couple of products from Dermalogica which really seem to be helping. I have the Daily Microfoliant which is great for super gentle exfoliation and could do the trick for you, especially if you are dry. They also have a sensitive skincare line and I used their ultra calming masque which I love. I haven't used any of their moisturizers yet, as I am presently using NCN's DNA Serum which is super hydrating, unlike other serums it seems much more hydrating. I am also using her volu-lift product over it. This combination seems to be working great for me. Best, Aprile.
