I am 27. I used Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream a few years ago. I overused it and it completely dried out DEEP layers of my skin. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. I am embarrassed to ask for a referral to the Dermatologist.
Has anyone else overused Retinaldehyde? I hope I can correct the issue :/..It is better than it was, but still, I see crevasse in my skin where it is dehydrated on a deep level. |

That's awful. So sorry.
I had Totally destroyed my skins acid mantle last year by using benzoyl peroxide twice daily with glycolic acid face wash, retinal and vitamin c products all at once. I was on proactive skincare and I should never have added retinol and other acids to the mix. The key for me was to start slow And try to repair the damage. The key was to stay away from acids for about 6 weeks and just use gentle products to help repair my skin barrier. I used ph balanced gentle milk wash ( no sulphates) and a good antioxidant serum and a moisturiser with ceramides, like Cerave etc, for barrier repair.
My advice is keep it simple and on top of skincare eat well, drink lots of water, and wear lots of sunscreen in the day. It's not just about repairing but also protecting your skin from making something which has already been damaged even worse. The good news is after all I went through I can now , wisely, use all my anti aging products.
Also you should not feel embarrassed to see a derm. Youde probably bee amazed at what they've seen. Obviously seeing your skin in real life would be the best way to assess your needs.
Good luck!! |
