Hello friends,

When did silver jewellery become the jewellery of choice as opposed to gold? Will silver jewellery still be fashionable next year? Any references/web-links.

Best regards

Silver has always been the precious metal of the ordinary people. That's why I love it even tho as a senior, gold does nicer things for my skin tone.

Fashionwise, I think silver is still good as white gold is also quite fashionable.

BTW "fashionable" is change hyped to make us buy new stuff (you already knew that!). Buy & wear what you like. It is sure to be in fashion some of the time, the rest of the time it will continue to make you feel good.

I work in the jewelry business. Silver has always been popular, that is true. It has a track record of being within the means of the most consumers, while still retaining value. Consumers with more discretionary income have always opted for gold or platinum, because these metals are more "precious." (read rarer in place of precious.)
Right now, however, the price of gold and platinum is prohibitively high for many consumers.

So what is the jewelry industry to do? It can either shut down, downsize, or begin pushing a metal that IS affordable.....That would be Sterling Silver! This is a response of the jewelry industry to it's customer's requests....."we want beautiful jewelry that we can afford."

A few years ago, consumers who could not afford gold or platinum would not have been able to find jewelry with high quality gems or pearls, but now they can!

I own all of these metals fashioned into jewelry, and I love all of the pieces. They have all retained value, some have risen in value quite dramatically.

Bottom line: If you can afford gold or platinum, then go for it. If not, silver is a decent investment....and silver is actually shinier than white gold, so it is quite beautiful.

So did you all notice how us Americans spell jewelry? As opposed to the European jewellery?

Aren't us Americans sassy?
