If so, what measures do you take to keep it healthy? |

I color my hair red and have highlights and I keep it healthy by not washing it but 2 times a week. I use quality products, usually Aveda but I am trying Joico right now.
And my hair is right above my shoulders so not too long. |

I've heard a lot of good things about Aveda and Joico products. |

My poor hair! I have coloured my hair for about 32 years
Mostly bleach (foils), I have also used tints. I can't stand regrowth so I go to the hairdresser every 3 weeks for touch up! I am very lucky I have thick strong hair and have never had a problem with it. I use different shampoo's, have used expensive to cheap and find most are similiar. I do use coconut or olive oil on it about once a week or fortnightly and leave overnight.
I blow dry and use a flat iron but never use products expect a heat protecter. At the moment it's just past my shoulders. |

My hair went completely grey in my 20's - I have been coloring for about 15 years.
What I do to try and prevent additional damage:
*Weekly oil treatments - apply avocado oil, leace it in overnight
*Trying to get in the habit of washing every other day.
*Use hair teas and rinses. Just started adding this back into my routine. Use horestail (silica), rosemary, marshmallow, nettle, roobois, sage... |

I would say about 3 times a week. Sometimes I just blow dry and leave it messy? Or tie it up in a ponytail. Actually some weeks I might only straight iron it once, then other times I might straight iron it 3 times, depends. I don't wash my hair every day. |

My colorist moved away so a few months ago I began doing my own every 5-6 weeks with permanent colour from esalon & my hair seems healthier using their products (have used 3 times). I use Mastey Traite shampoo and Shikai Color Reflect Styling Shine Serum. |

Foil or cap frosts for me.
Hair: on the Dry side and very thick.
Keratin treatments decrease frizz and also seem to make my hair stronger.
Plain old coconut oil and sometimes specialty hair masks.
Shampoos and conditioners without salts or sulphates (No SLS ever).
I also only wash twice per week. I know it wouldn't work for everyone but the "less is more" concept works for me and gives my natural oils a chance.
Since I blow dry and flat iron or use hot rollers - I use an argan oil or Sebastion mousse whip before blow dryng and sometimes a protective spray with a flat iron. It's mostly about protecting the ends - my hair is past my shoulders. |

sister sweets,
Could you please post a link to some of the products that you use for your keratin treatments? |

Hi Veronica - I have tried Suave keratin smoothing treatments and for me I LOVE Em but remember I have horse hair. This product is no longer available except on Ebay. I bought about 8 of them before they went completely off the market.
I've also used Renpure Organics-Brazilian 14-day Straight Treatment. It's just OK - does work but results disappear quickly after a few washes.
I've also bought stuff off of the internet - I can't remember the site but EDS member Secretly recommended it. She is on a past thread about Brazilian Keratin Tx.
A month ago I bought some stuff off ebay that I haven't tried yet so I won't comment until I give it a go.
My goal with keratin is to strengthen my hair and seal the cuticle and prevent frizz; all of which the keratin helps with especially with humid summer temperatures.
You also need a hot iron that heats to 450 degrees to seal the stuff in. It takes a while to do but for me the results are worth it. I paid for a tx once and it was $250 My own efforts are just as good so that took care of that.... More money for the microcurrent I'll be getting... |

I've been highlighting my hair for years. My stylist usually does the pull-thru-the-cap version, but has also done foils. I wash my hair every day, use cheap shampoo and conditioner, and blow dry. I don't use any other products on it. It's in great shape...soft and smooth...go figure. |

I've been having the Japanese straightening YUKO system for, ooh, about 8 years or so? I have it done about every 9 months or so.
I use their products (Bella) for the first month or so, then I use whatever I have at home, usually a mix of Aveda (damage remedy), Phyto, Redken (their Extreme range is very good for chemically treated hair), and other stuff like moroccan oil.
I do have split ends, probably more from ironing my hair towards the last few months before retreatment, but my hair is so silky and shiny can't notice them (I have to look in a magnifying mirror). I had a salon owner (who was dubious about Yuko) ask for a strand of hair which he put under a microscope gadget, and he expressed amazement at the good condition of my hair after so many rounds of Yuko. |

I used to chemically treat my hair for brief period of time and then stopped. At that time, I've used coconut oil for "hot oil treatment"...
Used conditioner after that makes my hair shiny...
I stopped because I found alternative to hair coloring. I now use herbal HENNA to color my hair. It is natural. I still do the same things, like coconut oil for "hot oil treatment" and hair conditioner. My hair is thanking me now...
