For example the 14k gold, 10k gold, 24k gold and so on and also same in diamonds? What is white metal? if you were to buy jewelry with white metal would it ware off?

Thanks in advance,

Gold is often mixed with other metals, and karat refers to the purity of the gold. A 12 karat ring is less pure/has less gold than a 24 karat ring.

For diamonds and other precios stones carat is the mass of the stone. 1 carat equals 200 milligrams. Specifically for diamonds there are also other criteria that increase or decrease the value of the stone.

In case of gold carat indicates purity, that is, how much gold you and how much other alloys. 24K gold is almost pure, at least 99% gold. But it's an increasingly obsolete system for gold, nowadays almost every precious metal has a tiny millesimal fineness stamp on it that denotes purity by part per thousand, rather than the old carat system that has 24 times the purity by mass. So 24K gold is same as 999-er gold, meaning that there are 999 parts of gold in a total of 1000 parts. 8K (375) and 15K (585) types are the ones I see sold most often.
White gold is usually 18K or less gold alloy with some white semi- or non-precious metal, palladium, silver or manganese. Or nickel in non-EU countries, which is bit thoughtless considering the number of people with nickel sensitivity.
No color should come off real jewelry unless it's plated gold or something tricky like that.
