| am thinking of doing a home tca peel, which states i should use rubbing alcohol first to prep skin - as I dont have any on hand, just wondering is there any alternative I can use to get the same effect? thanks. |

| You want to defat your skin with alcohol. There's not much else that will do the trick. |

Acetone and rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol, isopropanol - same thing) are usually used as degreasant.
Keep in mind that acetone is bit more stripping since it's a stronger astringent.
Another alternative would be 70%/140 proof alcohol (ethanol) or a bit higher.
There are also some places that sell pre-mixed degreasing solutions for pre-peel use, but they are really over-priced in most cases. |

I don't use alcohol beforehand, but I wash my face with soap and hot water, then dry it with my hair dryer until it's absolutely dry.
The idea is to get rid of excess oil. You'll peel better if you use alcohol, but it's not 100% necessary. |
