I am sure this had been discussed here before but I cant seem to find it.. can someone please direct me to the thread/s discussing recipes for shea butter and some oils.... I want to make a paste using shea butter plus some oils; I am thinking of using 50% shea butter and 50% oils ( I have few in mind)... pls help! I just want to know if these ratios are fine n will work into a paste like product, even a bit more solid is fine but I dont want it to end up in a "runny" mess!... Also I don't want to use any aloe gel or water in it..Thanks |

You dont need a recipe for that, just gently heat the shea butter until it becomes liquid and add in whatever oil you want. Shea butter is quite soft at room temp so you won't be able to add a lot of oil to it and still have it solid. I would hazard a guess that 20-30% oil would be the maximum before it became too runny. You can always harden any formulation up with a bit of beeswax if you wanted to increase the oil content.
As a side note, I've always found Shea butter to crystallise in formulations which is the primary reason I dont use it. The little lumps melt on skin contact but its never nice to feel grit in a skin product. |
