I've had melasma around my mouth area for years from birth control pills. Tried everything including IPL, Godiva, Herbalinn, products with hydroquinone, arbutin, etc. with little or no results. I had some results with Isa Knox whitening complex and taking MSM supplements. For the first time in years I can go without without any concealer. It feels awesome. Someone on this forum mentioned skinlighteningreport.com and I got it, read it and followed it and am very pleased. I think the combination of taking L-Glutithione supplements and the Otentika cream is what really did the trick. I've read where some people have broken out from the Otentika products, but they've worked wonderfully for me. The report recommended some of the products that didn't work for me (Godiva and Mandelic acid) but the new information definitely made a huge difference.

Skin_Adict, do you think the L-Glutathione really worked or is it more of the topical creams that you used that worked? According to a study, humans cannot absorb glutathione in their stomach and is therefore best taken by absorbing it in your mouth. I have really not found any peer reviewed study that Glutathione can whiten human skin (unless you know a link?)
Glutathione supplements appear to be efficiently absorbed in rats. However, the same may not be true for glutathione supplements in humans. For example, when seven healthy people were given a single application of up to 3,000 mg of glutathione, there was no increase in blood glutathione levels. The authors of the study concluded "it is not feasible to increase circulating glutathione to a clinically beneficial extent by the oral administrating of a single application of 3,000 mg of glutathione." Absorption of glutathione may be better in rats because unlike the gastrointestinal tract of rats, the human gastrointestinal tract contains significant amounts of an enzyme (gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase) that breaks down glutathione. Preliminary evidence has suggested that absorption of glutathione can occur in the mouth when glutathione tablets are placed between the teeth and the inner cheek.http://www.vitacost.com/science/hn/Supp/Glutathione.htm
The pharmacokinetics of oral glutathionine in humans are not well understood. It appears that in some animals (mice, rats, guinea pigs), serum glutathione levels do increase following its oral administration. Most human studies of glutathione have not found this to be the case. It appears that oral glutathione is hydrolyzed in the intestine via the intestinal gamma-glutamyl transferase enzyme. A small amount of orally administered glutathione may reach the portal circulation, but apparently this is also rapidly metabolized by hepatic gamma-glutamyltransferase. Thus, most studies have not observed a significant increase in circulating glutathione following its oral administration. However, there is an occasional study that does show an increase in circulating glutathione after oral administration. Further, there is some evidence that glutathione may be absorbed into the enterocytes following ingestion, but may not be released by these cells into the circulation. Research is needed to resolve the issue of glutathione absorption.http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/glu_0126.shtml
The effects of L-Glutathione is therefore doubtful when taken orally by itself. One way to manufacture it in your body is oral intake of its 3 components: L-cysteine, L-glutamate (glutamic acid) and glycine plus co-factors such as vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), glutamine, methionine, S-adenosyl methionine (SAMe), whey protein, Vitamin B6, riboflavin, and selenium.

Furthermore, there appears to be a feedback inhibition in glutathione synthesis. This means that if glutathione levels are excessively increased with the help of nutrients, the body may decrease its natural production. BTW, The frequent use of acetaminophen (Tylenol) depletes glutathione peroxidase levels. |

From my experience of trying glutathione, I did not see desired results of lightening the skin. The dosages for lightening now are set extremely high. The trick is in order to absorb glutathione in the body is to at least take Vitamin C 1000mg. This alone causes desirable skin brightening - and ppl think it is the glutathione working. It would be difficult for a vendor to market Vitamin C to brighten skin - since it's so cheap and virtually available anywhere - they wouldn't make any money. |

the only whitening product that has worked for me was a skin whitening milk from memeshop.com I have tried countless of products and wasted so much money. I can now swear to wear shorts again and I am so glad to have found this cream. |

I read at an arabic forum that they take Vitamin-C shots to lighten their skin color.
Maybe oral intake of c-vitamin will give the same result. I also read that L-glutathione will be absorbed if you take it with Vitamin-C, that's why they recommend to use the the same dose of vitamin-C and glutathione or more
i.e. if you take 1000mg of L-glutathione you have to take atleast 1000mg or vitamin-c or more. |

hi all,
i am sensitive/oily skin and when i use something im sensitive to, i get very oily. i find that Shiseido's white lucent night gel i really good. its a fresh light gel based cream and my skin was lighter in just 1 week.
Also, i used to use herbalinn face cream on my body, and that was absolutely amazing! I became whiter in just few days. Now i use the herbalinn body lotion coz it was on special, and its a bit watery and i find isnt working as well as the face cream. |

never heard of this brand.
I tried kose whitening lotion. I used it as a mask with fairly good results. I think Japanese brands have more effective whitening products. at least from my experience. |
What make of Sunblock do you use Skin Addict........as i find that all the sunblocks i have come accross they are either too oily or leave a white cast on my skin.............i've used Shisideo....Decleor....Sunsense.......etc etc......still to come accross one i'd like to wear........regards Karina
Hi Karina,
I think the best sun screen i've came across is the Sunkiller- powder milk. Its so extremely light, and leaves a cool feeling after applying. Where do you live? I think you can only get it in Asian countries and USA. |

You can get them at www.godivaskincare.com or www.naturefina.com.. I got some stuff at naturefina before and their customer service was terrible.. It took more than a week for them to reply to my email that I had to contact godivaskincare.. And I would never ever purchase godiva products anymore as their stuff made my skin itch and caused my eczema to flare up like mad!! |

Papaya soap does help to whiten. I use it on my body. But I wouldnt say it makes me very white. It just restores your skintone to your original.
Oh ya if you have access to Haba a korean skincare. It's really good from what I've heard. Their white lady and white knight contains vitamin C and helps to whiten. |

Oh wow, how did I miss this topic? I've tried a whole bunch of skin whitening/brightening over the past few years, some that immediately come to mind are Kose, Kanebo, L'oreal (the asian-only whitening line) and Godiva. Oh, plus papaya soaps.
IMO, the Kose Sekkisei is really nice. I don't think it'll "whiten" significantly (I think it'll lighten a shade or two), but my skin did have a very nice tone to it and did in fact seem clear and bright while I was using it (I really should go back to it sometime, my skin was fabulous with it! lol)
Failing the Sekkisei price tag (which is not too high, but not exactly cheap either), I loved Kanebo's Freshel White C line (it's their drugstore level skincare). Like the Sekkisei, I found my skin did have a nice tone and it also brightened up my skin somewhat. For my oily/combo skin, their (the green one, I don't know what's it's called, supposedly for normal-oily skin types) formulation was also ideal for me.
For Godiva: I tried it, I wasn't very fond of it. The texture/finish of the creams was not very nice and everything felt heavy to me. It's a really cheap line though.
Papaya soaps: I've only ever used Likas brand and love it! I think they do work, but very gradually since they seem to work more on exfoliating the darker skin rather than actually "whitening". I use this to shower with. |

I agree with you. Kose Sekkisei range is the only whitening skincare that I would recommend to anyone. The star product(s) within this range, in my view, are the Mask white (though it is black gel)and the toner. after application, they will make my skin look refreshingly bright , not that kind of bleaching the skin to make it white. This range is a gentle product, to maintain fairness for Asean skin. |

Lancome Neurowhite Spot Eraser has good reviews from users. Not sure if it's just for the Asian market or not. I only use whitening agents for treating acne scars, otherwise my face will become whiter than the body and I'm already quite pale (Mac NC20). |
