Hi everyone!

My issue is permanently ruddy red skin but not rosacea....as yet anyways! I'm in my late 20's with typical Irish skin. I have always had a slight redness to my nose and chin but in recent times my chin has gotten worse and worse. It is a bright prominent red, with the sides of my nose slightly less so. It could be down to hormones - I came off many years on the pill two years ago and it has certainly got far worse (along with acne and enlarged pores). I'm sure I also have sensitive skin, however not overly so. I have broken capillaries as well which would suggest a weakness in the skin. I have used some products for sensitive skin such as Dr. Murads, Dermalogica and Trilogy however they don't make much of a difference. I am at a loss what to do! It means I always have to wear makeup which can be a little frustrating especially as makeup does not sit very well on my skin. I would love some suggestions!

Thanks - Rachel

I had this too and it was a great relief to get the broken capillaries lasered. I forget what kind of laser, but it was a special one that they followed along the veins. The nurse told me that it frequently is caused by hormones and that if left unattended would simply get worse over time. Like you I tried everything else (and the cummulative cost of that was quite a bit) and would have been better off just biting the bullet and getting laser a few years back. I too have very fair translucent skin so every little imperfection did show. I love not having to dab on concealer every time I go out.
I think the laser session cost about $150 at a cosmetic medical practice.

Check with a reputable dermatologist/plastic surgeon about IPL.

Eau Thermale Avene has amazing products for red skin! They are formulated for sensitive skin, and they have a skin care routine especially formulated for individuals with red skin.

Check out the products by Googling Avene. I would try these products before doing something expensive like IPL.
