Hello all,
I have had botox in my jaw 3 times:
1st time: About a week after I got loads of spots on my jawline
2nd time: About a week after I had to take antibiotics because the gum around my wisdom tooth became inflamed and I could barely eat.
3rd time: Just over a week after the botox I have developed a nasty ulcer on the inside of my bottom lip (by the gum).
Now my theory is this:
Everyone knows that the skin is the first elimination for toxins (boTOX I should imagine being no exception) which is most probably why I got spots on my jaw line after the first treatment. I then started using Retin A which obviously reduces spots (and in this case the ability for the skin to give out toxins). So when I had my second treatment and the body was being prevented from releasing the toxins through spots it caused a nasty inflammation in my mouth maybe as a way to release the toxins or maybe because the toxin was running havoc in my body as there was no way of it being expelled. Then finally after the third round again the body cannot release the toxin through spots so is doing so through an ulcer instead.
Any thoughts on this? |

Interesting. I have had botox in my jaw muscles to prevent/help with clenching and grinding and it does work. I haven't done it in a few years but I don't remember any bumps and certainly if they had been significant I would have. I have had it in plenty of other locations but no reaction such as yours either.
Hate that it happened to you and would like to hear if anyone else had the same reaction to botox. |

Thats interesting Annie. Must admit I have never heard of this happening to anyone else either. I do think my body is pretty sensitive to things in general. But have often wondered how it is that people can have a toxin injected in to them and it not show up on their skin afterwards. Infact they apparently use botox to treat acne now.
Anyway did a little research and it turns out that 1% of people have had teeth problems (among other things) from using botox. Also found that some others report getting spots after it was injected. Didn't find anyone saying about having an ulcer after botox. Am still pretty convinced it is due to the botox though as have never had one before and this is a pretty nasty one. Also found this on one of the pages:
"HOWEVER, new studies are finding a disturbing occurrence in the bodies of those using this product. It now appears the Botox enzymes travel to other parts of the body as it breaks down.
Botox was found in the feet and nails of subjects in the studies, even in those who hadn't received the treatment for a number of years. This means the product stays with you for long time."

Well I can only comment on using it to reduce jaw size but yes am very pleased with the results. Just not too happy with the other things I have mentioned. |

Not being for or against botox, it does make sense that there could be repercussions when injecting a poison. It also makes sense that some will never see any and other's could see a lot. |

I don't get it often but I will say I have gotten it less and less thru the last few years and in quite significantly smaller amounts.
Maybe I will leave my body to science when I pass and have them test what fillers/botox went and where. Self-preservatives? Ugh.
I guess it is just like how allergies can affect bodies and cause different reactions: hives, itching, etc.
Makes sense, just sorry you had to experience those side effects! |
