What are the benefits for the skin and does it leave a smooth finish on the skin like Argan oil or Jojoba oil?
Thank You! |

I've seen it on the internet classified as a "light" oil, but I would consider it medium. It's very silky, and soaks in reasonably well. (Not super fast, but well enough for an oil.)
There is some ferulic activity in it, too. It has a high percentage of unsaponifiables. No real aroma to speak of.
That's about all I've got. hth |

These are good emollients for the skin but if you have oily skin to begin with, I wouldn't add more oil of any kind. |

SusieQ I've actually witnessed and heard the opposite. Oil Cleansing Method works well for people with oily skin. My brother has oily skin and when he does it, his skin clears up. In fact, I learned about OCM from people with oily skin. It's as if having oil on your face sends a message to the oil taps that no more oil needs to be produced. Just like using an astringent to remove oil from oily skin only seems to alert the "taps" that there's a shortage of oil up top so get to pumping out more.

Yeah, I think this sort of thing is subjective. Borage & grapeseed oils do WONDERS for my skin, and I'm on the oily side. (On a scale of 1-10, I'm probably at least a 7.5.)
But if you've got oily skin and absolutely no natural oils help you, then that's probably just your body chemistry. The great thing about skincare is personalization. I know at least one person with very dry skin who doesn't use oils or emulsions, and she does just fine. It's all about what is going specifically help you, and nobody else. |

Nonie, its true that oil cleans oil but if you have oily skin, why add more oil? That great that this helped your brother. His cleansing method is gentle and thats the main thing. |

Oil helps to clean oily skin of impurities, it absorbs all the junk from pores. Besides, you do not add oil to the skin, you wash your skin with oil. Add polysorbate to the oil mix for easy rinse. The recipe is here:

I mainly use OCM on my nose to get rid of blackheads, works like a charm.

Because the alternative doesn't work for a lot of people. A lot of people spend all their lives using drying products to combat the oily skin issues. But all that serves to do is send a signal to their oil pumps that the skin is dry and in need of lubrication leading to more oil production and oilier skin. At least that was the story of many with oily skin who no longer have issues since giving up astringents and replacing them with OCM (eg my brother).
It seems as if because skin is no longer being stripped of oil, it's like it sends signals that no more oil is needed. So the oily skin issues come to an end. (After all, sebaceous glands in people with oily skins don't keep releasing oil till its dripping of the face. They just produce oil till face is oily and greasy and then it seems they stop coz there's enough on the surface. So I guess this kinda fools the skin?
Not necessarily a scientific fact; just my musings from observations.)
BTW, if you prefer soaps and are worried about chemicals, how about a natural soap like goat milk soap? This article discusses pH and how it relates to your skin and soaps: http://goatmilkstuff.com/Goat-Milk-Soap-pH.html |
