Can someone please tell me how you know if a bulge under the eye is fluid or fat? |

If it increases in size based on sodium intake, after drinking alcohol, allergies, etc. it is probably fluid.
If it is always there and the size is always the same, it may be fat. |

Thanks Bethany. I am not sure if mine (it is only under one of my eyes) increases in size or not! If it does it is only a minor increase. Would it increase/decrease in size to the extent that I would know about it? Also does it matter what it looks like? e.g Mine looks like a less bad version of this:

The thing is I saw a plastic surgeon the other day about something else and I just casually mentioned this. He said he could see what I mean and that it was fat so I could do with some resty under my eyes but he is a plastic surgeon so I wanted to have an unbiased opinion. Also even if it is fat do you think medical intervention is the only option or could facial exercise, massage or some home machine sort it out?
Sorry about all the questions and many thanks |

Moon, if yours look less pronounced than this, then I don't think you have much to worry about! I'm no expert, but here is my opinion... Since in the photo the little bulge is right under the eyeball, I would consider the root cause to be more a loss of fat or sliding of the cheek muscle/malar fast pad, which causes a depression in between the cheek and the eye muscle and makes you look like you actually have eye bags.
I suffer from the same thing, and I'm pretty sure it's not fat nor fluid. It's due to the movement of muscle/fat underneath the skin and muscle atrophy. I've started Ageless facial exercises to tackle this exact issue.
I'm sure other EDS members can add to my comment and correct if I'm way off
Hope this helps! |

Thanks Fitgineer. What you said is very helpful. I researched the "sliding of the malar fat pad" and I do believe you are right. I feel a little cheated though - I only turned 25 last month.
Are you noticing any difference with the Ageless programme with regards to dark circles and under eye fat? I have bought Flex effect and it is sitting next to me here but have not used it yet out of fear that I may create other problems e.g. Forehead lines. Also it sounds like it takes a while to see results and after our discussion I want more instant results before my under eye degenerates any further. I have even been looking at things like fat transfers! What is the Ageless programme like? How long until it starts to work? Have you had any negative effects form it? Thanks for your help |
