I was looking around on youtube and saw this doctor who claims that ascorbic acid can't penetrate the skin. He claims that you should be using ester vitamin c. Thoughts?
I'm new and can't post the full link. Just add that to the end of the youtube url:

Always so amusing, that dr Schultz.
1. If you look at Kassy's recipes, you will find that she uses glycerin to keep the AA in solution.
2. Many users have reported good results from DIY AA serums.
3. And c-ester serums aren't that hard to make either.
The whole point about oxidising c serums is, that the ones you buy can be off, when you DIY you know it's fresh and active.
Dr Schultz is a strange man. Just about everything he says seems to contradict the experiences of the users of EDS forum. It's almost coming to the point where discouragement from him is as good as an endorsement. |

The truth is usually found in between the soundbites.
Vitamin C is notoriously difficult in penetrating the skin, but for certain formulations involving pH level, concentration, etc. There is a lot of helpful information on this, in this forum and elsewhere online.

Anyone but Dr Schultz! He offers the weirdest theories, but has never bothered to explain why he feels that way about certain things, in this case, ascorbic acid. It's disconcerting. He's not just voicing his layman's opinion like we do here on forum (no matter how strange, anyone has the right to have an opinion), he sells his theories as a medical professional (persons in those positions should stick to proven facts). His weird notion of almost always going against the grain of major research in dermatology robs him of any credibility.
Not that I have anything against MDs having blogs/vlogs and giving insights into their world. But then again there are quite a few amazing ones. Dr Schultz just isn't one of them in my opinion. |
