I hope you girls can help me because while I know about different skincare ingredients and what they can do, I don't know how to put them into practice since so many interact with one another.
I'm 36 and have stayed out of the sun, so overall my face is in decent shape as far as sun damage. What I want to address is fine lines under my eyes, smile lines, clogged pores, acne and even though my skin is oily, it's still flaky in areas despite some exfoliation. I don't overdo exfoliation because Temptalia had an article from aesthetician Renee Rouleau warning of over-exfoliation. She talked about how using a Clarisonic or other exfoliant too often thins the skin, although I don't know if that's true.
It's important to me to try and use products that are mostly free of the bad stuff. I really want to avoid parabens. The only exception for those I make is a mask I use for emergency breakouts and an eye cream that only has two in there and so far is the best I've found.
So right now, my regimen is to use liquid black African soap from Shea Terra Organics or a cleanser from the Body Deli, both of which are OK.
I sometimes use a Clarisonic, but not daily.
I have a PMD exfoliation device, but don't use it all that much. Maybe I should.
Once in awhile I'll use the Eminence greens mask (forget the full name) for exfoliation, but not often.
I have the red and blue Quasars which sit unused because I really didn't see a difference. I also have a high frequency Jellen machine that I've been using, but it's too soon to see a difference.
At night, I'll tone with the PMD toner that came with the device (alcohol-free) and use Acanya for acne. I really don't like using a benzoyl peroxide formula on my face as I've heard it's not good for the skin at all. AHAs and BHAs just laugh at my acne though and do nothing for it.
During the day, I'll use Pratima Rose Face Sunscreen or Devita's moisturizer/sunscreen combo, both of which are physical blockers.
And that's it. I'd like to add in a C serum and something that will help the fine undereye lines a little more, but I have tried and tried with Retin-A and just wind up endlessly shedding like a snake and ultimately having red skin.
Do you have any advice? With my 37th b-day not far off, I know things will certainly not improve with my current regimen. I'm still trying to get the nerve up to get Botox again (fear the dreaded droop). I will also definitely get some fillers in my cheeks again as I've lost facial fullness once more, but I also want to maintain my complexion.
I also need to get my diet back on track because anxiety has taken away my appetite and that is part of the reason for the loss of facial fullness too. I lost some weight that I didn't need to and am working on getting those pounds back on.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I guess I need product suggestions for an exfoliant, C serum and anything else you might think is beneficial for the problems I mentioned. Thank you! |
