Hi Ladies,
please help me find my way out of this product maze - no sooner do i come across what sounds just the product for me, then i come across another product, which is different in terms of active ingredients, but which actually seems to fit the bill as well Confused Crying or Very sad
Forum members have kindly alerted me to the importance of vit c, so am going to incorporate this into my regime.
Perhaps i should say that i have areas of slight oiliness around my nose and chin prone to occasional spots; forehead and cheeks very dehydrated.Oh, and i've hit the big 40!
At the moment, i use clinique rinse off foaming cleanser and mild soap, but am aware this could be drying, so need a thorough, non drying cleanser .
At night, i have been using MD Formulations Night Recovery, which is supposed to be good for dehydrated skin, but i think its making me dryer. I like the idea of incoporating a retinol in my night time routine - would it be better to use SkinCeuticals Retinol (no glycolic acid), or would this still dehydrate/dry my cheek and forehead area? Retinol alternatives?
Next, i've been trying out Prescriptives latest - Intensive Rebuilding moisturiser - not sure if it is actually working, but maybe the Night Recovery is masking or preventing possible benefits!
AM - I will now use vivier vit c 10 first. Should I follow this with a b5 gel (which is the best?) or something like the Babor hydrating serum? I use Dermologica smoothing cream at the moment under my make up - but perhaps there is a better one, perhaps with a built in spf?
As i have been using the MD Night Recovery with glycolic, i havent been doing any other exfoliation - not sure my face would be up to it

I'm sorry shivvie I can't really help because I'm currently in product confusion hell too. But I just had to reply to say please please stop using the Clinique cleanser and soap. If anything is drying out your skin, it will be the Clinique.

as it can feel abit tender now and then. But have been checking out Epidermex and camelia oil (thankyou Pudoodles) - could i incorporate these with retinol and vit c / b5 regime, or would i be completely crazy to even consider doing this?

So as you can see, i may just have to shoot myself and put myself out of my misery

No problem shivvie Wink

At the risk of making you Brick wall , you might want to read about retinol on this site:
http://www.smartskincare.com/smartchoices/waste.html

In the short time I've been on this forum, I have heard lots of people rave about epidermx so that might be a good choice, although I can't tell you anything about it from personal experience. Good luck and don't shoot yourself just yet Wink Just sit back, relax, and listen to all the great advice you are sure to get from all the super knowledgeable people on here Very Happy

shivvie - I haven't used the MDF Night Recovery but looking at the ingredients it could be drying out your skin a bit. It does have AHAs and BHAs in it, both of which can be drying. I have used Clinique rinse off cleanser and the mild soap. I have found both of them to be drying on my normal/combo skin so I would suggest that you look for something else (I found YonKa Gel Nettoyant to be excellent if you like gel cleansers). If I were you I would hold off on buying the B5 and just see how I go with Vivier. Vivier is not as drying as Cellex-C or Skinceuticals so I find that I don't need the B5 with it. Mind you, if you do have dry skin (I have normal to combo, depending on season) and are finding that the current treatments are just not enough then I would suggest the B5.

Thankyou Rzecka for the Smartskin website info.- checked it out and ended up spending some time chasing different links - really interesting!
However, may have read the info about the retinol too late i fear Sad Apparantly retinol is pretty useless unless used in huge concentrations, which would ultimately be too irritating to the average skin. It is retinoic acid (found in retin-A) that is of most use - all these vit A derivatives -
it is all too confusing for my poor little brain and i have already ordered Skinceuticals 0.5 retinol yesterday- Poo! Is it going to be completely useless?

On a happier note i have ordered vivier vit c - thanks Mabsy- and i like the sound of the Yonka cleanser - have asked for a sample.

Thanks guys !

Shivvie,

Give the retinol a chance, It helped clear up my congested skin. To start with only use it once or twice a week, then gradually build up. I did experience a period of dryness/peeling, but once that was over my skin was glowing.

The skinceuticals retinol comes in a an airtight container which keeps it stable. When it comes in a tube with a cap and air gets in it can go bad.

I haven't used it long enough to comment on wrinkles, but I can say it did help with my blackheads and zits.
