Hi,

I am 30 years old with true dry skin, and the occational hormonal breakout. Some blackheads on my nose and redness around my nosewings.

I' ve been increasingly interested in AHA and BHA exolations, but am seriously confused on what to use? according to Paulas choice, bha is recommended even though other sources say that aha are best for dry skin.

Further, how do retinoid fit in? Is it too much to use with aha or bha?

Very grateful for help:-)

AHA = surface exfoliate
BHA = within the pores

I am oily sensitive and I can use both. Some products do contain both acids. (One is La Roche Posay.)

You can use AHA with retinal. Avene Tricneal (replaced Diacneal) has a product that contains 6% glycolic acid (Aha) with retinalhyde (a form of retinol). Very effective product.

I have a sample of Paula's Choice new BHA9. It works well on clogged pores.

I can empathize with your frustration.

I have dry/sensitive/acne prone skin and could not find the right product because I wanted exfoliation too.

I found Cosmedix, a top shelf natual skin care line. I use their Benefit Clean line which uses PHA, Polyhydroxy Acid.

PHA is similar to AHA but the molecules are smaller resulting in less irriation, exfoliation, hydration and calming cell stimulation. I LOVE IT. My skin is so smooth and supple.

I'd suggest looking into using PHA products. These acids are truly great for dry sensitive types. Cosmedix also makes a product called Define for sun damaged, dry/sensitive skin. It contains retinol and low intensity AHA for skin like yours. It's a night treatment and mildly hydrating so it could be a win/win!
