For the Skinoren Cream (azelaic acid), it only says to use for 6 months only on the box. Does anyone know why? I don't get why you could only use it for 6 months. Has anyone used it for more than 6 months? |

I have not heard this before. I never noticed and was never told by my derm on the US brand Finacea. |

My Skinoren does not say to use for six months only. I have read other posts that also mentioned that six months limitation but mine does not say that and I have gone through at least six tubes. |

Possibly because azelaic acid used at high strengths can bleach skin over time, or cause hair growth. Look up azelaic acid bleaching agent on google....here is one article:

That's interesting. I just looked at my box (Intendis / Bayer) and all it says is "Apply twice daily. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 30°C." There's no mention to not use longer than 6 months. Is yours also from Bayer? |

So i asked a pharmacist online, using this website. I can't link the website but here's her answer "There are a couple of issues here: 1) The safety of use has not been proven beyond 6 months and 2) Prolonged use may lead to hair growth and bleaching of the skin. You should contact your doctor for further concerns. Thanks!" Her answers seem to match what I've been researching online. Now I'm not sure whether this is specifically towards Skinoren or Azelaic acid in general because I've never heard any problems with Finacea. Has anyone experienced these side effects? |
