I recently made my first batch of KinNiaNAG serum and stored it in an airless bottle. To sterilize it I poured in some alcohol, shook the bottle and emptied it. Is that enough to sterilize it? Do I need to wait a bit after I empty the alcohol? The reason I ask is because I'm worried what would happen if leftover alcohol would get into the serum.

Also after I poured the serum into the bottle there was a gap between the product and the lid. It's shown in the picture below. Is this of any concern? Did I do something wrong? Product comes out of the bottle though even tho there's a gap there.

Edit: I can't post picture since I'm new here, but here's the link to it. Replace the 2 underscores with dots.

Chris, there are too many variables in your equation to know what happened to you, as stated in your SCT post.

First, did you do a patch test to determine the KNN was ok before putting it on your skin, as recommended?

Second, KNN is not a cure for active acne. Not claimed to be.

Third, in that post on SCT, the person responding to you is misinformed. The NaOH is neutralized by the citric acid in the formulation. Unless you made an error, the pH should be compatible with your skin.

I use lab ethanol 99% and bleach to sterilize my equipment (not just the bottles!) each time. Let the alcohol and/or bleach dry before using to ensure its done its work, but the ethanol wont hurt you if a bit gets into the serum. Rinse the bleach out with water.

If you fill the bottle all the way to the top with the serum you will not get a gap. You may have to pump the diaphragm of the bottle up a bit to compensate for the discrepancy b/t the amount of product you made and the capacity of the bottle.

Hope this helps a little.

Hey Fawnie. I did perform a patch test, first on my hand and then on my face. After 24 hours, once I saw that nothing happened, I started using it nightly. Then as you can tell by the pictures on SCT, my skin got really bad. Eventually I decided to stop using it and now my skin has calmed down.

I know it's not an acne cure, but it's supposed to keep it under control. Dempeaux have been using it for 2 years and for her it helps with breakouts.

I'm puzzled by my skins reaction to it. I think the next step is to contact SEA and hear what they think might have happened.
