I have spent the better part of this evening listening to/watching the cosmetic procedure video talks given by Dr. Robert Kotler (see Amazon for his credentials and authored books) on WebMD videos, under the Beauty category.
Of particular interest is his information on chemical peels over lasers (chemical peels better than lasers, as I suspected) and his talks on things to be aware of with respect to cosmetic surgery procedures.
He appears to be straightforward and realistic...a rarity.

Interesting videos. His chemical peels are really heavy duty ones though compared to most lasers. You need to be put under and 6 months before your skin is back to normal. (at least this is what the girl in the video said) The results look great though. |

As with lasers, the chem peel healing process is highly individual.
There are some excellent textbooks out there on the science and methodology of chem peeling...they discuss various acids and percentages and expected healing periods, comparisons to certain lasers, etc.
Interestingly, I have yet to find similar books on laser treatments. Maybe someone can point one out to me.
What I most appreciate about the Kotler videos however, are his comments and tips on cosmetic surgery.

Forgot to add that I believe the only chem peels that require general anesthesia are deep phenol peels and those are generally only used in a few cases of severe skin damage.
From what I understand, most medium peels use local anesthesia only.
I do light peels at home, no anesthetic.
