MaryClaire posted this link in the Dermaroller thread a while back so maybe not too many have seen it. It is a YouTube video where Dr. Fernandes is being interviewed about the importance of active ingredients in skincare. He has some really interesting things to say. It’s a 12 minute video. Some of the information is already pretty well known, but if you don’t have time to watch it, here are the highlights:
Dr. Fernandes believes that the most important actives in anti-aging are Vitamin A and antioxidants.
He says that a broad spectrum of anti-oxidants is necessary to cover all aspects of free radical damage.
He advocates starting anti-aging products in kids around age 4 – just when they are starting to get significant exposure to the sun.
He talks about the need to introduce Vitamin A in steps in order to build up the receptors and avoid a negative reaction.
He says that when using skin care topicals alone, it takes three months to begin to see changes. The changes are more established after six months of product use, and permanent improve happens at about 18 months.
This interview was done in September of 2012 so it is fairly recent.

Yes, this video is great. I watched it a few weeks back. His face looks good for 70, but did you see his hands? They looked outstanding! |

For some reason youtube has been acting strange on me lately and I can't watch the vid. But if that summary is accurate, then I agree with everything he said. |

I watched that video a few weeks back and liked it. I remember hearing him talk about starting anti-aging products at 4 years old and wondered what others thought of that idea. I'm not sure I'm buying into that. I think he looks at it from the aspect of preventing any damage before it starts by providing the skin with the actives it needs to repair itself. Which is a great concept. I'm just not sure how feasible that is. You can barely get kids to brush their teeth and put sunscreen on and that doesn't take into account the additional cost of starting skincare products that early. I do think he looks great for his age. |

That is really interesting. My 10year old uses anti aging products. Dermalogica hydrating booster with super rich repair is the only thing that helps his dry winter skin. I don't think of it as antiaging though! |

Thanks for this post. Dr. Fernandes looks amazing! Dermarolling has been terrific for my skin. After getting hyper pigmentation beneath my eyes from a home laser devise the combination of his products and derma rolling were the only thing to quickly reverse the hyper pigmentation. I admire Dr. Fernandes very much for his research, publications, and before/after photos showing results.
I am using diy products but hope in the future to use his products regularly.
