Hi all,
I am desperate for some help. I am 30 years old and about 3 1/2 months ago I got a bit over zealous with some exfoliating products trying to get rid of some pimples and clogged pores. It started with the use of a salicylic acid face wash for a few weeks and then the use of a mild pumpkin peel. I also had been using a probiotic moisturizer that was supposedly mildly exfoliating and occasionally used the clarisonic. I only overlapped the face wash and pumpkin peel for a week or two. The pumpkin peel said to use it 3-5 times a week and at most I used it 3 times in one week. I started noticing my skin getting highly reactive and turning red a lot. I then quit using the pumpkin peel and went back to my old routine of cleansing and using a salicylic acid toner a couple times a week. I began to have constant breakouts and the pores on my cheeks opened up and became large and every single pore looks clogged and they connect to form lines. I now have tight and rough feeling skin that flushes easily and when I smile I have wrinkles all over my cheeks and by my mouth. I look like a 60 year old woman! Additionally I have noticed a huge amount of volume loss throughout my face which has also included hollowing of my eyes and horrible tear troughs. I can't believe what I see in the mirror. I have been to two dermatologists and the first one seemed to think I had acne or rosacea and the second one I saw recently said I definitely had rosacea and that the changes I am experiencing in skin texture is aging and I probably damaged my skin barrier which led to dehydration.

Sorry for the long post but I am really struggling and this has affected all aspects of my life. I am also 7 weeks pregnant so I really want to feel happy and enjoy life again. I no longer exfoliate my skin and I have only been using cetaphil and cerave lotion (cream causes breakouts). Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so, did it improve? I may have lost some weight over the past few months due to depression so I am not sure if that's affected my eye hollowing but I have put some weight on with no change. I appreciate any advice!

I don't think your peels and exfoliation caused any long term damage. Those are pretty mild compared to TCA and higher glycolic peels that lots of people do.

I think your issues are due to the hormonal changes due to the pregnancy. Ease up one the exfoliation and keep your skin moisturized. Weight loss can make you look gaunt as well. Are you sleeping and eating ok? That will help your skin. Good luck and congrats!
