I am currently looking into Obagi to make my skin glow. I am currently using Retin A .05%, but it hasn't been working lately. I am on a budget, so would Obagi Action or Blender be more effective? Is there something else I can do on top of that? (I don't have freckles or age spots, just dull skin).

Those products are meant to be used together as part of the Nu Derm system, which is for age spots, melasma and/or skin rejuvenation. IMO, Action is an overpriced simple moisturizer. Blender is meant to work synergistically with Retin A for deeper penetration and to get the hydroquinone (skin lightener) into the deeper layers of the skin. As you don't have melasma issues, then I wouldn't recommend this product either.

If your skin if dull then incorporate an AHA or BHA exfoliant. There are many choices depending on your skin type and what your skin can tolerate. Retin A causes your skin cells to turn over faster but then the dead cells just lay on top of your skin making it look dull. An exfoliant will remove those cells so your skin can glow. And by removing those cells, your Retin A can penetrate deeper and work better.

You can use an exfoliant in the AM and Retin A in the PM or alternate nights.

I don't think blender or action are the way to go either. Those products are meant to be used in synergy with the Nu-Derm line. I am using it now, I have some melasma, age spots and hyperpigmentation that I am trying to get rid of. For dull skin, how about a nice Vitamin C serum? It should give you a nice glow, you can use it in the AM under your sunblock. Either way, let us know what you decide.

Sunscreen is essential while using Retin-A as it causes extra sensitive to the sun. Both Obagi Blender and/or Obagi Action moisturizer are used in synergy with Obagi Nu-Derm. If you don't have freckles or age sports, I will not suggest this line. I think if you have a dull skin, I suggest to exfoliate every 1-2 weeks depending on your skin condition. I also suggest you not do too much exfoliation either. Doing "mild" exfoliation will ensure that skin-care products will penetrate better too, in turn, will give you some improvement on your skin. I also suggest use Vitamin C Serum or make your own DIY vitamin C serum if you are on a budget. This forum has a lot DIY Vitamin C serum. It is located at "Skin-Care Tools & Do-it-Yourself Skincare"... Good luck Smile
