overnight frown lines and under eye wrinkles; allergy?

I am a 29 year old, blue eyes, dark blond hair. Before using this cream (Olay's microsculpting cream) I had no frown lines and no under eye wrinkles (my bf actually commented on that, how wrinkle free my skin was. After using the cream the next day I had swollen eyes and once that went away I had these very extreme under eye wrinkles and crepey looking skin on the inside corners of my eye, in addition I developed deep frown lines.
What on earth is going on? Did I have a reaction to the collagen or maybe the peptides in the cream? I have a history of allergies.

It is now 3 months later and I still have the wrinkles Sad

I am no longer looking young for my age, I think I look 34 or so.

My mother said she developed under eye wrinkles like that only in her forties. What should I do? I now use vitamin c serum, retinoid 0.025 and sunscreen.

OK its easy to get really scared when these things happen, but look at it calmly.

You have allergies, and so it sounds like the swelling etc is just an allergic reaction of sorts to the cream you were using. At 29 years you are still very young and your skin may just have had a negative reaction to something in the cream you used. Now the swelling etc you say has gone, but I’m wondering whether you need to get checked out by a doctor to make sure your body isn’t still reacting to something in the cream you used. Is the microscuplting cream for use on the eye area? Sounds like an unusual name for an eye product so I’m also wondering if that’s got something to do with it also.

Definitely keep with using sunscreen, but also get to a doctor and rule out anything else that may be the cause here too healthwise.

You are right, I am quite scared :-/
I got an appt scheduled for patch testing, so hopefully we will learn what the trigger is. Otherwise docs have been quite unhelpful..
I guess my question is, what is best for reversing the damage, that appears to be permanent?

I am all for evidence based interventions, and the only studies that I found that use in vivo experiments and that yield significant results are retinoids, vitamin c and niacin amide. Peptides too but I dont dare to play with them anymore. Anything else you can recommend?

My skin is very sensitive, dry, itchy, uneven complexion, red, and I also have adult acne and scalp acne.

Stop scaring yourself. You will only get yourself into a more stressed out state which won’t help you at all. Relax, the skin knows how to do its job and repair. Now the appointment and patch test if brilliant and will hopefully help you identify what it is that has caused this. The doctor been unhelpful – well don’t let them be so. Tell them you need and want assistance and if they can’t give it to you they should recommend you to someone who can. I get so cross because when I was in my 40’s and my hormones started playing up I knew something was up, and if I had let the idiot doctor tell me it was all in my head, I would never have got it sorted. This could be a serious medical compliant or condition you have and its their job to help sort these issues out. Be tougher with them – unless you are happy with how things are at the moment and want them to stay like it.

Now damage appears to be permanent – how can you know if its permanent without proper medical tests. Again you are scaring yourself and unnecessarily here. At 29 years you are not likely to be needing major things done, so stop stressing.

Evidence based interventions – well it depends where you start from. Knowing you have sensitive skin and allergies, I would think using a high strength product (even if it has proper studies behind it) is not the best idea.

Now again, is the product you use supposed to be used on eyes? The name makes me think otherwise?

Yes I find it hard to push doctors, too easily intimidated I guess.But also, if dr's do not see immediately what is the cause they get annoyed it seems.
I did not put the product on my eyes, just under my eyes, but you are right that it is not specifically meant for the eye area. However my problem is not just the eyes, also my forehead.

Well if you find it hard to push doctors, then you probably should just know you are going to stay that way forever (ha ha – bet that will convince you to be more pushey). Don’t let them scare you – it’s a major concern and there could be a real health concern underneath this so make them work! The product you used, is it actually designed for use around the eyes? That may be the problem, you used too high a strength product or a product that’s designed for something else. Sounds to me like one of those body creams of theirs. It will undo itself over time, but get checked out first girl!
