I went through the original derma rolling thread and didn't see a lot of talk about it, nor did I find anything when I searched using different keywords (if I'm an idiot, I'm sorry!)

So, has anyone tried the suction pump method along with their derma roller/needles/stamp/etc for their acne scars? I've read some of the owndoc threads but really want to hear what EDS members have to say. You guys are my leaders, jk.

The results for acne scars seems to be great, but I'm seriously nervous, because bruising is expected/needed, and I don't know about walking around for the next year or two with near-constant bruising. Has anyone pumped just enough WITHOUT bruising, and did you have any success?

ANY input on this is welcomed greatly. Thank you guys. Smile

Hi ellaelise,

I used the suction method after subcision, fractional laser, and dermarolling. I didn’t use cupping, though; I used a PMD without the abrasive disc(Personal Microdermabrasion Device - there is a thread on EDS about the PMD, but only as it relates to microdermabrasion).

When I used suction after my subcisions, it definitely increased and extended the amount and healing time of the bruising. When I used it after vigorous dermarolling, it created some bruising for the first day or two, but the bruises were easy to hide with makeup and lasted only a couple days after the initial roll. I had a similar reaction when I suctioned after having a Profractional Laser Peel. When I suctioned after dermarolling for product penetration, I didn’t get any bruising.

I suction regularly, regardless of whether or not I'm doing some other treatment. I figure the PMD has a similar effect to the Vaculifter of which so many EDS members speak highly. Since you would only be doing a deeper roll every 4 to 6 weeks, you probably wouldn’t suffer from near-constant bruising.

I’ve been trying to improve my acne scars for decades, and subsicion/suction did more for my deeper scars than anything else. Dermarolling/suction improved the overall appearance of my skin greatly, including my shallower scars.

Although I attribute much of the improvement to dermarolling, I did start using all kinds of new actives, as well as an at-home ultrasound/LED device, at the same time. Those things may have contributed to the improvement as well.

I recently got a dermapen device, but I haven’t used it on my face yet. I’ll be trying that in a couple weeks, so I’ll let you know how it goes. Let me know if I can answer any more questions for you, and good luck!

Thank you so much for your response! The acne scars are what I'm working on, and you've actually gotten me really excited. If you wouldn't mind, would you link (either in post or as a PM) which suction device you used? Thank you so much.

And yes, please please keep us updated w/ the results of the dermapen. I know I for one am really excited about them and would love to hear your experience.

<3 Thank you so much, I don't know where I would be without this forum, I was so clueless before I started reading it.
