Over the last two weeks, the skin under my eyes has become increasingly dry. It's to the point that small pieces of skin are separating, drying out and flaking off, and the area under my eye feels rough to the touch. Anyone have any tips or product recommendations?
I use Korres eye cream during the day and Kiehl's avocado eye cream at night--I've been using this for months. No changes to my regular skin care regimen. The only change that has happened in my life lately that could affect my skin is that I had a baby a few weeks ago and I'm breastfeeding, so staying hydrated has been a challenge.
Any help is appreciated Thanks! |

Hmm, that's a dilemma. Do you think you may have developed an allergy to an ingredient in one or both of the creams?
I would switch to something like plain oil or olive squalane until the flaking/dryness resolves. And be sure to drink a lot of water. |

Its not eczema?
I read recently, at owndoc, that people had been using infadolan under their eyes very succesfully. Its an ointment that owndoc sells.
When I was breastfeeding I had an ointment called Lansinoh, for cracked nipples.. its lanolin, basically, I think.. and it might do the trick for your under eye area.
Equally, some calendula ointment could do the trick.
I'm thinking it would be a good thing if you upped your oil intake, as well as making sure your fluid intake is high. Some coconut oil each day could serve to feeed your skin as well as your baby and you!
Good luck and congratulations! |

I never thought of using Lansinoh I have a tube of that that I haven't touched as I've been lucky to escape cracked nipples to date. I'll give that a go.
Not eczema AFAIK. Also, the undereyes are the only place on my face that are suffering from this.
I'll also see how I can improve the fat intake. I'm trying to lose the baby weight but I haven't been drastically dieting. Staying hydrated has been a challenge since I don't often feel thirsty, yet I know I'm losing a lot of water with the milk production.
Thanks for the responses. I'll post if the Lansinoh helps! |

Updating...the Lansinoh worked. It is too heavy and sticky to wear during the day, so I applied it only at night. During the day I used my Josie Maran Argan moisturizing stick; I also used that stick whenever I woke up during the night. And I've been pushing the water intake. Now all the dry skin is gone |

In your situation, I think you should go to ask a doctor for advise first.
Otherwise, eye mask will help the dry area under eye. Sisley-Paris has a good eye mask (green tube) I have used for a long time. It will keep the skin soft and moisture. Or you can apply a thick layer of cream to keep the skin moisture. |

The Lansinoh gets many raves as a cuticle ointment. I had it years ago for its intended purpose and it worked. |

Thats good news.
Congrats on sorting it.. you have enough to be dealing with at the moment without dry skin as well!
I agree its a challenge to drink enough while breast feeding. I had flask of green tea next to me all the time.. the flasks with a little spout on them, and you can push down on the top for hot tea to come out. Made it easier for me.. |
