I am very interested in having laser hair removal done, however I am very afraid to go ahead with it.
Did anyone had it done and could someone share their experience with me please.
thank you.[/img] |

Kinga,
I have contemplated getting it done but I decided not to because of the cost - you need to to do this quite a few times before seeing good results - and also experiences of some friends of mine. The two people that I have talked to have both talked about skin sensitivity, redness, and then some pigmentation issues (that lasted a few months). I love the idea of not having to wax on an onging basis but if I'm going to pay that much money I want *guaranteed* results!
ps. I have a friend back in PL with the same surname as you. Just a useless tid-bit of info for you |

I was looking into Laser Hair Removal as well.
I was told that it takes at least 5 treatments to get rid of all the hair from the treated area. One treatment gets rid of only 20 % of the hair.

I was told that the laser hair removal works much better on dark, stiff hair than it does the light, softer hair, so I guess it depends on what you're targeting.
I've looked into it quite a bit, but since my hair is very fair, after an esthetician told me that it really didn't work as well on light hair, I stopped researching.
I probably will eventually attempt to find a laser specialist who won't just tell me anything to sell me and ask their opinion.

I had a friend get it on his back...It worked great. I'm unsure how it would be on fine hair such as the face...
What area of your body were you considering? |

I was thinking of having my bikini and my legs..
but, my hair is not dark at all and i was informed couple of years ago that it would not work for me. However, I now have also heard that lasers have changed and they will work on me.

Kinga...
That's a very good point, as technology changes all the time. The people who told me that laser wouldn't work on lighter hair, just may not be up on the latest technology. All the more reason for me to check with a laser specialist.

It may be a while before I get to it. I'm leaving town again this Wednesday and then in March, I have a trip to Houston to keep my grandaughter while her Mom and Dad go to a Gala Benefit, then their family will come here to the lake for their Spring Break vacation.
If you don't hear from me by April, be sure to ask me again, but it's very likely to take that long before I get into the city to have an appointment to check on it.

Sure is!
Btw, one of my friends has had his back lasered. His hair wasn't too dark and he's done it a few times so far. It's reduced the amount of hair but not to the extent that he would be happy with (but he'll have more sessions). I think if you have the $$$ to do it multiple times (like say 6 or 7) then it might be worth it. Of course, everybody will have different results.... |

Hi,
I had laser hair removal for a really embarassing problem and was not pleased with the results. I am interested in pursuing other locations but am also tentative about embarking on a treatment program with lack-lustre results again. I have hair on my chin (female) and have spent a miserable 3 years shaving it off. I had treatment for 3 months to try and eradicate the problem but with no positive results. I know that the hair cycle is 6 weeks but I also have the best skin and hair combination (fair skin, dark hair) for positive results. I am skeptical about the results of laser hair treatment but also have read many testimonials proclaiming success. If you are still on this forum I would be very interested in hearing your results. Cheers and best of luck |

Go for it, girls. It's the best thing I can ever recommend to my fellow girlfriends! I had the laser treatments on my bikini line, underarm and upper lip, still no hair to be seen after 5 years. Mind me, I was very very hairy underarm since early age, tried all sorts of hair removal methods. I am so grateful that I had had laser them off.
It is true that it works better (quickly) with darker skin and dark hair, darker hair absorb light/laser more therefore more effective. But I am fairly pale with dark hair, I had quite a few treatments before they were all gone, but it's worth it. You should go to a clinic to have a consultation and have a patch test. The hair will still come back after the first treatment, but you will see it will become less by every treatment.
One tip, try to find a clinic that charges you by minute, I find that it's the fairest way of charging since the effectiveness depends on the person's skin and hair, some might need 3 treatment, some might need 8 to get rid of all the hair. And it also depends on how tolerant you are. So I don't find it fair for those clinics to charge $1500 for underarm for max. 10 treaments, what it you only needed 3?
And you girls are lucky, the technology has improved since when I had it. It doesn't hurt as much or at all nowadays, and not to mention more effective. The last treatment I had on my lower legs was not laser, it was a new technology called something light. I was told it is more effective and less harmful, it didn't hurt at all! Do your research, visit or call around different clinics. It's worth it!!!!! (Those who live in London, I can recommend a clinic)

Take it from a therapist!!! it takes at least 6 sessions for it to remove all hair totally bceause of the hair growth cycle.. but each time the area will get smaller and so will hurt less.. i personally don't think it hurts that much more than having your ears pierced really and is really worth it considering how often you have to wax. £49 per session is how much they charge where i used to work and it's really quick as well, but that is only for lip area prices went up to about £200.. but you do have to wait a couple of weeks between sessions. in fact they'll do it absolutely anywhere. one woman came in to have a her nipples done. maybe it's a good idea for area's that are more embarrassing than others like your lip and chin or smaller area's like your feet and toes. I had my underarms done over 7 sessions during last year and it's really been worth it. |

I went along for a consultation last year and although I have the required dark hair/pale skin, I was turned away as I have areas of hyperpigmentaion
Well to be honest I wasnt "refused" The technician said that she wouldnt be willing to go ahead but if I wanted to take the risk I could pay for an appointment to see the Dr (who wasnt a dermatologist)and he would agree that as long as I signed a disclaimer treatment could go ahead.
So basically she was telling me that although it was contra-indicated in my case I could have it done against proven advice as long as I was willing to pay for someone to over ride the proven advice. Needless to say I choose to walk away |

I am really fasinated by laser hair removal and would definately have it done if I had the money.
How much is it for the whole pubic region do you think? I'm not joking, I hate waxing and have never had any sucess in that field. |

Rosebud, I think I had only 3-4 sessions for my bikini line. I hate waxing especially in delicate area there, and ingrown hair...yikes! Go for it, you won't regret it.

I will tell the other half to get saving if he wants billiad ball smooth
Hope you don't mind me asking how much did it cost? If I was to have it done I would just want a strip left above the lips, nothing else. Is that what they mean by bikini line?? |

Hey, rosebud, do you mean just having a "landing strip" left (aka Brazilian) ? Or all gone (aka Hollywood)? I only had my bikini lines done (just enough on the sides) so I do not have to worry about it with bikinis, and it looks tidier for my hubby . I had Brazilian and Hollywood (waxing)on special ocassions . Well, the clinic I went to as I said above is in London which charged by minute, I had a couple other areas done at the same time, so I don't remember how much I spent. I wish I was still in London than I could get other areas done, it's addictive. Read my message above, charge by minute is the fiarest way I think. Have a patch test first.

Yes I meant a landing strip - in my younger days when I was younger and dafter than I am now I did my own Brazilian with just the waxing strips I never knew about using talc before hand and so I ended up glued to my knickers - I nearly took off all my skin trying to get them off - then after I had proudy displayed my handy work (it was just very red!!!) I ended up stuck to my boyfriend, he got waxed as well |

LOL, rosebud! I am not young any more but I still do not know what talc is, please educate me. But I had the same experience with waxing strips for underarm when I was 17. It was 34C with humidity of over 90%, I just put plastic or something on it and went to work (summer job), my God it was a torture. My underarm went through so much, that's why as soon as I worked I went for the laser, it was the best decision I have ever made, saved myself pain, time, hassles etc. I am not hairy anywhere but my underarm was another story! - KK |
