OK...I could really use some of your valuable input here
I'm 44 years old and have never taken proper care of my skin with a complete skincare line. I was using a NeoStrata cleanser but I have never really been happy with it. I have finally decided that it is time to take care of things (better late than never?). I am on a fairly tight budget right now so most of the products I have decided on are "drugstore level". I have very oily skin, fine wrinkles on my forehead and brow area, and fairly deep Naso-labial folds (which I plan on getting restylane treatment on - later). I am also concerned about large pores and firmness. At this point, these are the products I am looking at:
Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser
Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub
Neutrogena Oil-Free Toner
Avon Anew Ultimate Eye Cream
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream SPF 15
Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Facial Peel
I have been using the scrub for about a week and I haven't had any adverse affects (I have read that Neutrogena can be somewhat harsh). Anyway...from what I understand (which by the way isn't very much!) the above products will go along way to improve the appearance and texture of my skin - but not provide help with wrinkles and firmness. I was also looking into Relax-A-Line and Hyaluronic Acid. Then to top all this off - I start reading about Vit C Serums! I think I'm going to go crazy!
Does it look like I am at least off to a good start? And, how much is "overkill"?. |

Hi kjb
Your off to a good start because you have recognised you have a problem and are determind to put it right.
Im not familiar with the neutrogena or avon products you have mentioned but I would certainly give them a try. Both are well known and popular brands and Im sure you will achieve the start to great skin.
If I was you, I would target one particular area, i.e. eyes, and then research the products through reviews on here and try and save/stretch your budget to buy one excellent product that could help turn your skin around. Search the beauty sites as some may have special offers on that may make some of the more effective products that get talked about on here more affordable.
Good luck. Im sure you will get alot more replies with better advice, despite a high number of posts, Im still a novice really
Perceviere with your products unless you have any reactions |

When I was younger i use to use neutrogina products to help me with my break outs and to minimize the pore size. I was not that impressed with it at all. I found that the products dried my skin and did not produce that great result at the end.
I realized that i was spending more money on products that did not help untill i was introduced to Yonka line. I have very combinational to oily skin and I tend to break out sometimes and Yonka really helped me out. the products are not that expensive and last you for quite some time.
You can also try some products with AHA/BHA. I believe that Avon carries some products that contain AHA and BHA and their under eye creams are great too. ( not too expensive either).
Sometimes I find that purchasing one item but a very good one really makes a difference. You could buy a cheaper cleanser but invest some money in a good face cream.
I hope that helps. |

Kjb,
I'm not all that familiar with Neutrogena (apart from their foaming wipes ) or with Avon. However, just in general, I would say that you need a good cleanser, an exfoliator, vitamin C serum, an Argireline product, and a moisturiser/SPF. That would be my approach. I think if your skin is oily and does not have any tendencies to dryness then you don't need the Hyaluronic Acid.
Out of all those types of products, I think it's most important that you buy the vitamin C serum from a good source. I am yet to see an effective and stable vitamin C serum being sold at the drugstore.

ETA: Oil of Olay has a very nice cleanser called Total Effects (not sure if it's still available overseas but it is in Aus). It's a little bit like a scrub but can be used everyday. |
