I live in Atlanta and it gets hot as hell in the summer. I use Retin-A year round every other day.
I'd use at least a 18% zinc oxide sunscreen and apply the correct amount (aprox. 1/4 tsp for the face and the same amount for the neck).
Retin-A help undue the daily damage from UV rays. |

I actually find it difficult to use retin A during winter because my skin is more dehydrated. Whereas, during summer it's pretty humid where I live and this works well with using Retin A on my skin.
Just be sure to always wear high spf sunscreen and a hat. |

My 17 year old son has good results with retin A. We live in Canada with harsh winters. The retin A is just too harsh for him during the winter. When he had his derm visit; she suggested Differin. The Differin works but seems to be more gentle (tolerated better) for the winter. His skin looks fantastic now. The retinoids really manage the break outs.
He will probably go back to the retin A soon as we have nicer weather.
Just a suggestion for those that can't use retin A all year.
I also agree with the sunscreen year round. |

I have never had any issues using it in the summer. I do increase my SPF and frequency to accomodate for being out in the sun more though. |

I have been using Retin and noticed the other day after I had driven in my car a day or so before with the sun shining on my face that I had some new freckles which may indicate that my skin was damaged by the sun that day as the car was hot and I had sweated off the sunscreen which therefore was not providing enough protection and the effects of the Retin A meant my skin was more prone to sun damage. So basically I stopped using the Retin A concluding that it probably is not worth it in the summer months. |

I use Retin-A all year round and I live in Canada. During summer months, I use a higher SPF that I can find and double my application when the weather is extremely hot. I also have a tint/film on all my car's windows to avoid sun damage.... I wear long sleeves, protective gloves and a hat when I am gardening either early AM gardening or after 5.30pm gardening is best for me.... |

I have never had any issues using sunscreen in the summer. I always use it for my customer in my salon. You can also use it. |

Thats a good idea Jade. Do you also have sun protection film on the windows of your house? Have been thinking about getting this done... |

Great minds think alike. This is what I do too. Differin is a great alternative. |

Hello Moon I don't have sun protected film on the windows of my house. But I think you can get a UV ray protected double-glass windows now-a-days, costs more, but I think it is more energy efficient too. I normally keep away from the windows as much as possible. During bright sunny day, I have (dark) curtains on the windows... At night, I use a light-colored airy curtains....
