Hey ladies,
Have any of you tried this Skin Zinc stuff advertized on the radio? It's for exzema and psoriasis. My mom wants to buy it but it's pretty pricey. |

I have never tired it... but i called them after hearing their ad on radio....
I thought that the person that was trying to sell the product was to pooshy and after that simple conversation it kind of drew me off of even trying it.
The ads are very catchy but i am not sure if they are all that.

My mom called them today and said the guy was a bit pushy too. She's really got it bad on her hands and feet...they crack and bleed and she's tried all sorts of stuff. The elidel cream helped but gave her warts all over her hands. *yuck*
My grandma has the same and is getting allergy tests done. My mom figures she'll wait and see what happens cuz she's prolly allergic to the same thing.
The stuff can be returned...but it's a waste of shipping costs.
Have you tried the Eczema treatment cream from Escents? It's the best natural product to help my mom so far... |

I have never tried elidel either but my doctor presribed an ointment with a steriod very minty.. you are not suppost to use it more then 10 days and then stop for couple of weeks and reintroduce to your daily routine again.. if you do it longer then 10 days your skin becomes to look like shoe leather and you don't want that either..
I left the ointment at my mother in law but i can find out the name of it and let you know later.
that ointment really works....and no harsh side effects.
For craked and bleeding feet i have been told by others that you can try a product that contains urea 10%. I am not sure how it works yet cause i myself had not tried it but it suppost to work very well and should make your feet soft and makes your feet heal from all the cracks and driness as well. products with urea are good for people who are diabetics so I am assuming that it works well. |

she's tried 10% urea...no difference.
If you remember the name of the cream you tried let me know...but don't worry if you can't find it. My mom's tried a lot of stuff...and just booked an appt with a new derm today. Hopefully they'll do more than her MD |

I have has psoriasis ever since birth. Scalp, and legs, buttum of arms. Seems to be in the same areas on my body as the other side ( same leg spots, arm spots) etc. I have managed to keep it under control, to a point where its not visible but it just comes back in the exact same spot. I have tried tanning booths for psoriasis with UV-B, little change. and been told about some pills you can take but have side effects like: your eyes will be sensitive to light. if you have not heard about these ask your Doc/ specialist.
Now, after living in Edmonton AB Canada, where its cold and dry for 7 months of the year, my psoriasis has gotten out of control.
I use a cream called Dovonex for every area other then Face. when i see one developing on my face i use a cream called: Emo-Cort cream 2.5% (Hydrocortisone cream USP) Topical Corticosteroid 45G
this works famously on my face.. times i want to put it on my legs.
Hope some of these creams may help you. Dovonex works good if you keep up on it daily.. i have it in diff areas its a pain in the arse to rub on everywhere.. so many spots.. need a paint brush... so i was woundering about Skin-Zinc. cause its spray on!! i hear |

ECK! Hydrocortisone isn't supposed to go on the face at all!!!
My mom's been using that one her hands with no improvement.. She's got it mainly on her hands and feet. |

My son has had hydrocortisone for the face off the doctor but it has to be used SPARINGLY and only on the effected part. He gets a dry patch on one eye lid and one dab of cream sorts it for a week or two. |

The doctor told her not on the face, but that doesn't matter, she doesn't have it on her face...and it hasn't worked where she does have it.
Just so you know, hydrocortisone thins your skin, makes you prone to stretch marks, and increases your risk of infection. With prolonged useage it can lead to long term skin damage.
They say up to 1% is ok to use on the face, but I wouldn't risk it. |

I was recommended a 0.5% hydrocortisone cream to use on the face when I had a rash a few years ago. At the time I was told to only use it *just* on the affected area of the face and not to use it for more than a few days. The pharmacist said something about the possibility of an even worse reaction if you stop using this cream after you have used it for a while. |

MY HUSBAND HAS DERRIER'S DISEASE (sp) WHICH IS SOMETHING LIKE PSORIASIS SQUARED. IT CAN'T BE CONTROLLED BY TOPICAL TREATMENT. HE WAS TAKING A MEDICATION FOR SEVERE ACNE, BUT IT WAS TAKEN OFF THE MARKET BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS, HE NOW TAKES ACCUTANE, WHICH HELPS, BUT DOES NOT WORK AS WELL. IN ANY CASE, I AM ALWAYS ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR NEW THINGS TO HELP HIM, AND WHEN I HEARD THE AD FOR SKIN ZINC I CHECKED IT OUT ON-LINE. THE ZINC PRODUCT IS USED IN SHAMPOO FOR DANDRUF, AND IS NOT EFFECTIVE. I READ ON-LINE THAT THE EUROPEAN FORMULA HAS SOME STERIODS, AND AT A HIGH PERCENTAGE.
THERE IS A CREAM THAT DOES MORE TOPICALLY THAN ANY OTHER HE HAS TRIED. IT IS TRIAMCINOLON, AND YOU CAN GET IT IN DIFFERENT STRENGTHS. |

I too looked at Skin Zinc but wasn't convinced that the ingredients would be effective. I seem to remember that one of the ingredients was salicylic acid, which did absolutely nothing for the seb. dermatitis on my scalp and face. I'd want a little more in the way of product confidence in order to spend the approx. $50 for it.
What works for me:
- for seborrheic dermatitis on my face, I finally caved and got prescription Protopic. Works the best of anything I've tried, applying it about four nights of seven;
- for psoriasis on my body, Dovonex (must be used consistently!) and, if the lesions are spreading and weepy/itchy/driving me nuts, I use Topilene Glycol. Yeah, I know -- it's a corticosteroid -- but it gets the unbearable flare-ups under control enough for me to go back to Dovonex;
- haven't found much (besides Stieprox prescription shampoo, an anti-fungal) that works for the seb. dermatitis on my scalp. It removes the flakes for a couple of days and reduces the sore or painful surface areas of the scalp, but I also notice an increase in hair loss and I'm already freaked out about that!
Does anyone else feel like they're falling apart, bit by bit? Oh, how I long for that 15 minutes I once enjoyed, when I still had a butt that hadn't gone south, a full head of hair, skin that didn't look like road rash, and the wrinkles had not yet overtaken the zits. |
