Why is that? Deb talks about FlexEffect, Dr J talked about Cellese, Nancy talks about NCN products. Could you at least answer questions if people asked, like in a dedicated thread? |

Not sure how that would go over bethany but its a good idea! But i think the ruling is now that ppl are to ask Qs about small industry products in PMs. Someone ruined it for all of us I guess.. |

That is a great idea...Rather than having industry connected people post all over and not knowing their affiliations, if they had specifically identified threads or sections, that would be fantastic...I think that would generate even more sales for them and the buyers could make their buying choices with full knowledge.
I know that I for one, would have more confidence and be willing to spend more with sellers that were out in the open.

It sure seems like small industries should be treated just like the big ones. |

Depends upon the company's focus I guess. Im not interested in being Estee Lauder. I have a small but loyal clientele and like to keep it that way. Once a company starts having production to meet and overhead ... well, its not fun anymore and thats where i get out of the business. |

interesting,
but, i dunno, BFG, seems like alot of potential loopholes there.
e.g. *buying with full knowledge* and *sellers out in the open* may be an oxymoron. LOL |

This is what I am thinking. I would love to hear about *all* skin care options. To me, some of the best options are from smaller businesses.
To me, it is all about transparency. It should be reflected in your user name or signature line.
And regarding MyFawnie skincare, I would love to learn more. |

I am not affiliated to any one at all, and have spent many £££ on things mentioned here and other skincare sites. Some have been a complete waste of money ( my bad!! and perhaps my gullibility ) but most have been from rec, here and skincareboards and they have been great buys.
I think a specific thread just for vendors maybe a good idea,at least then people would be out and open.
BTW I use Fawnies products and they are just beautiful, easy to use and quite lovely just take a look at the website.
I am not affiliated to her in any way, just one very happy user

Perhaps it's due to my background and related factors, but where my health is concerned (including skincare), I can't see myself operating on blind faith - but each person has his/her own level of risk tolerance...
Peace & yes fawnie - have always appreciated your great level of helpfulness and your knowledge of skincare has been appreciated by me too

Always paid for my own stuff!
However, I've been approached many times by skin care companies with same offer, they would give me free stuff, sometimes even full sized products, that I would have to review then. And omg I dare say that the small companies really push/subtly bully one into writing a favorable review and suggest that their products should be recomended on blogs (don't have one ) and forums. Wasn't it one of the reasons EDS closed the homemade skincare section? I don't go for that kind of thing, mainly because the products offerd were crap in my honest opinion. Wouldn't use on me, lest recommend to anyone else. That never happens to me on EDS though, probably my post count here is too uninteresting *sobs*, because from reading threads I certainy get the impression that some posters are just proxies for some vendor. I always take product reviews with a grain of salt, especially the raves, and sometimes I even go into the person's profile/history to see the ugly truth.
Oh yes, skin care is a dirty business. Lots of rocks in the muddy waters. |

I ordered from a perfume vendor last week and got an email yesterday indicating that if I would write reviews of her products, she would give me a discount on my next purchase.
I don't know what to say about all of this. The only way I get a feel for whether something is legitimate is when I read posts over time and get a feel for the person's writing style and content and how much they disclose about their affiliations and interests.
I launched a commercial free skincare discussion group on Facebook and invited people to join, but so far it has yet to take off due to low membership. I even offer to moderate.

BFG, tell the perfume vendor you'll write exactly what you think, regardless of whether it's favorable. See what they say then. I'd be interested to hear their response (or lack of it). |

What does "blind faith" have to do with "full disclosure"?? Confused ... |

I was referring to posters who come onto the forum promoting a particular brand of product or device, etc. based solely on their own experience.
Anecdotal reports aren't used elsewhere in skincare or healthcare...except as a nod, so I don't count them as much...however, sometimes when we have many corroborating reports, I will check into something because it could be something good that just hasn't been researched much yet. I try to keep an open mind.
If someone comes onto the forum however and states that product X works great for them and they have received a product for free or at a discount, that indicates their views could be compromised by compensation = less reliable.
Knowing that can make all the difference. We're human after all.

Here's a simple analogy.
I take two trips to Maui - same hotel, same great weather, same great food, sightseeing and wonderful adventures.
One trip I received as a gift, all expenses paid and the other trip I paid $5,000 for. Psychologically speaking, the brain records the free trip as being much better

I am just happy we don't have MLM people trying to tell us about the great company Rhodan + Fields, the founders of Proctive.
If you use something and love it, talk it up! Hate something, tell us why!
When I first started reading posts here, I was pretty sure all the DermaRoller people were nuts. Now I have joined them in their nuttiness and read everything I can get my hands on!!
So THANK YOU EDS!!! |

Give them time...I am sure they will find us eventually, lol.
I did use a number of their products back when they were owned by Estée Lauder, but nothing in the line blew me away. |

I don't think there is a whole skin care brand that I can truly support because it isn't perfect. I do sell jewelry because I do believe in the brand and it makes it easier to represent the brand. |

Oh to have a skin care brand offer me free samples and money for favorable reviews..
I live on a very tight budget. So I DIY or try to get the best deal by reading carefully the INCI ingredient lists on products.
And when I find something I like, I try to DIY it. Also because I don;t like some ingredients and think fresh is best.
So there you have it - I would always support the cheapest and easiest option. That's why I don't it on this forum. |
