Well, I'm just a simple college student. My skin regimen is pretty simple. however lately,i've noticed a couple of spots and discoloration on my face. I went to the dermatologist and she recommended a very light bleach cream that would lighten the dark spots. It's been working i guess.

This is where it gets bad...

a few weeks ago, i was reading a forum and I noticed a lot of people speaking so wonderfully of lactic acid peels. I decided to try to include into my skin regimen once a week. I purchased a 88% which I diluted to 44%. My first time trying it wasn't so bad, however I didn't receive the results I thought I would. yesterday, I figured I would give it a try again. I dilute, and applied. as soon as the fan brush hit my face, it began to burn which also happened the first time, so I wasn't concerned. After I realized the burning was getting worse, so I neutralized with a wet cloth and baking soda. When The Acid had come off, my face continued to burn and I realized that blisters were forming. I applied petroleum jelly last night and went to bed. This morning I woke up and realize that parts of my face looked like burn skin. Very wrinkly and dry. I'm 21 years old and I'm wondering if this will ever heal. Please help if you've experience or know how to get rid of these spots.

I think you will be fine, peels are basically controlled damage and I've done TCA peels that looked awful at first but turned out fine later on and TCA is much much stronger than Lactic acid.
Keep it moist and don't pick at it as it peels because you want the skin to be all the way healed underneath and peel off naturally on it's own.

aauguste it goes without saying: wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun to minimize the likelihood of hyperpigmentation on the new skin.

Leave the skin alone and just keep something like Neosporin (if not allergic to it) on it at all times to keep it moist. Dont wash, just gently dab with a soft clean wet cloth and apply more Neosporin.

Good luck!

@ fawnie, @tomisonbottom thanks guys. I used Neosporin and aloe vera and the burns have turned into scabs and are beginning to peel off on their own. Thanks for your help! Very Happy

Congrats aauguste on your first lactic acid peel!

In my experience, lactic acid is even more painful than glycolic acid! yowzzza

Yes lactic acid is a nice moisturizer at lower than 44% levels! Laughing AmLactin is available lots of places but do a patch test first and wear sunscreen when using acids!

I'm glad you seem ok now. But please don't do this kind of thing at home. It would be a shame to ruine your skin at 21.

Kept with safe stuff and don't experiment with products that are reseved for derms. Some products might look safe because use frequently in derm's offices but you never know what kind of réactions you could get.

If you skin seems to get worse or does not seem to get better quickly go see your derm.

I have used the exuviance 25% peel, but that is already premixed and you open one packet to use on your face, then after up to 10 minutes you use the #2 neutralizer packet.

I'm not too sure I want to mix my own peels.
My derm did not have a issue w me doing this peel at home and told me that it does not work for gettin g rid of individual blemishes (what i was there for), but if I was using it to have my skin look more even it works for that.

-the derm did not know me that well, and so did not realize I was trying to even my skin tone as I fell on my face and had scratched it quite badly.

I know Neostrata has a 10% peel and exuviance also makes other good items.
